i got popped in downtown seattle for no front plate. he pulled me over for driving like a 16 year old, but he didn't have a legitimate crime, so i got the no front plate.

it's just money

How about this one! I have no plate on the front. If I install it, it will scratch the paint off because it's too big. RCW says it is illegal to modify the license plate in any way. So therefore, I cannot install it because it won't fit!

U could have a law detector radar and when it was activated the plate would pup up.

Hot rodders done it years ago, on the rear, with a cable arrangement.
All manual. Radar wasn't part of regular life then.
Old time choke cable.

I heard that C6 owners have obtained an exception to the requirement for front plates under this portion of RCW 46.16.240,
"Attachment of plates to vehicles — Violations enumerated....
... In cases where the body construction of the vehicle is such that compliance with this section is impossible, permission to deviate therefrom may be granted by the state patrol."
Any of you have experience with this yet???

While that sounds interesting, Does the WSP know that C6's have a front plate mounting bracket? It's not always installed by the owner or the dealer (when new, you get the paper temp tag), but I think it's included with every C6 sold in WA (and other states where a front plate is required) simply because of the front plate law.

In any event, the key word in that RCW is may

Default It's sickening, really.

Let's get the ballot initiative going again. Instead of thousands of people trying to work around the requirement, we need to eliminate the requirement.

The cops will have to realize that the citizens have some rights, and that everything on earth is not for their convenience.

On page 1 of this thread, I mentioned that I got stopped by one of Hillsboro, OR's finest. Specifically for this problem. That was in my '00 (the one in my avatar).

Believe it or not, I got pulled me over a few weeks ago for the same thing in the '01 (for which I barely even had the OR title for). Let's just say he wasn't pleased with me. It went down something like this:

Northbound on a 2-lane road, in a line of traffic maintaining speed limit. I see the motorcycle cop coming southbound. He LOOKS DOWN AT THE FRONT OF MY CAR, slows, flips his lights and turns around.

No shoulder on this road, so I turned off on a side street, immediate stop, killed the motor and waited.

SAME FREAKING COP!!!

Didn't want to hear that it was a brand new car. Didn't want to hear that the private party sale from California resulted in me not having the adapter. Didn't want to hear that it was on order. He couldn't believe dealerships didn't stock these things.

He then had the nerve to suggest that I tried to run away from him. 2-lane street with no shoulder. Where was I supposed to stop? "You're the 2nd guy in 5 years to do that." Well, I guess I just look for safe places for both of us to have this conversation, eh?

"I'm going to email the judge about this." Fine, pal, go ahead. I'll just go to the clerk, plead "NO CONTEST" and never set foot in the courtroom on this. (Gotta admit, I was a little nervous that the judge was going to ask to see me when I showed up to pay the fine.)

This law is being applied inconsistently across jurisdictions, and even among precincts! I was pulled over in October in the '00 for speeding. Hillsboro cop coming at me clocked me. Didn't say anything about no front plate. Participated in Hillsboro Tuesday Market. Saw a couple of Hillsboro's finest there, and I don't think they mentioned to any one of us in attendance that we were out of compliance.

A couple weeks ago, I was rolling through King City on Hwy 99w, a notorious trap area. Lidar patrol looked right at me, but didn't come after me.

Beaverton, Tigard, Newberg police don't care. Washington County Sheriff drives right past me. Yamhill County Sheriff doesn't bat an eyelash. OSP could care less.

It would appear that this particular officer has it in for a particular manufacturer.

Jeff

PS I did plead no contest to this issue, but I do plan on having a conversation with the head honcho in Hillsboro.

Jeff,

I have a few LEO friends who work in Clark County and most likely you will not be pulled over by Vancouver City or Clark County sheriff unless you catch their attention by erratic driving. No front plate is a primary offense here and you can get pulled over just for that violation.

If you have the ambiition you could call internal affairs for the jusrisdiction and make a formal complaint aobut the treatment. You cant make any issue out of the rason for the traffic stop but you can complain about his attitude.

good luck,
Ed

Ed,

That's what I plan on doing. Thanks for the advice.
