Well my son has a 2001 WS6 trans am with an LS-1 which spun a rod bearing, me having been a cranshaft grinder for 13 years said lets fix this engine after doing some research I've found out these engines are not that common to rebuild, they have a weird con. rod which cannot be resiezed, so it looks like our best bet is to find a complete short block, he found some on LS1tech.com for about $3000 either back east or in Texas, does anyone know of a local outlet?

The rods are powdered metal and the caps are "Cracked" apart via a parting line. This gives a perfect alignment. But you can't grind the facing off the caps and rehone them back to size. You can get some aftermarket forged eagle rods for under $500.
LPE has a short block starting at $2200 plus core charge. http://www.lingenfelter.com/store/lpels1ls6sb.html
There is problems over at LS1tech right now in that section & alot of the guys are moving over to MySL1.com which is a friendlier site.
I know I'm there daily. There is still a wealth of knowledge just in that section alone. Most of those guys are either on their second LS engine or are looking to seriously upgrade so IMO they have more experience building out LS series motors and have a lot of good info/ contacts. We'll see if there is a permanent switch to MyLS1. You know how vocal and opinionated those boys can be when prodded.

Nick, I got a local machine shop that can replace the crank for you and get it running. You can source most of the parts on the various forums or build a new engine. If you are interested PM me.
