Whiler Seattle Wheel in Ballard could probably mount and match balance the tires once you buy htem,.... can you get the tires thru discount tire? The reason I ask is that the Discount Tire on Evergreen way in Everett is excellent.
Is there a local source for V710s? I can get 'em from TireRack but I'd rather buy local if it's possible and not brutally different in price.
For those of you that do the TireRack, who do you have mount/balance?
Thanks!
Courtesy Tire in Tacoma is one of the Tire Rack's suggested shops. You can go to the Tire Rack website and use your zipcode to find a TR recommended shop.
You should be able to get V710's at any Discount Tire. FWIW, some Discount Tire places will price match Tire Rack, but I don't know if they do that for competition tires.
I'm looking for either V710's or A6's fo rthis coming autocross season and would like to shop local but like everything else, money is the driving force behind a purchase.
I talked with Discount Tire in Bellevue today and I'm going to give them a shot. They assure me they can do a high performance balance for $15/tire (we'll see) and their pricing was right in there. Order time was 3-5 days. They noted they charge significantly more ($45+) for "you bring your tires to us" mounting.
The intent here isn't to start a debate - we all have our experience and loyalties...but I'm going to let them take a swing at this and see what happens.
Most of the time, Discount Tire prices include mounting and balancing. So if that price quote includes mounting and a standard balance, that's a good deal. For autocross use, a standard type of balance is fine as you really wont see high speeds.
But for track days, having a shop spend time on doing a good job is important. I always ask for tape weights (stick-on) and for track use, I cover the weights with a good adhesive tape. If the shop has a Hunter GSP9700 balancing system, I will spend extra for the use of that machine.
The Discount Tire here in Olympia only charges me $25 for mounting and balancing my carry-in tires.
The only other difference in price would be between the sales tax at Discount versus the TR shipping costs. Figure about $90 for sales tax buying local and $55 for shipping from TR.
