Have any of you heard of or might be insured with American Family Insurance? I received an attractive quote from them on both auto and homeowners coverage.
I've never heard of them before now. I have no reason to believe they aren't viable, but I'd feel more comfortable hearing of anyone's experience with them.
I got a really good quote from Amica years ago, called my SF agent and told him that I might switch,he said he would be sorry to lose me since I've been with them for so long,he then told me to make sure I would not get dropped if I got a ticket,so I called Amica back and asked them what would happen if I did get a ticket, they said they would have to drop me,my agent also told me if you get dropped from any insurance you now become a risk and wind up paying alot more in the long run,so I stayed with SF probably paying 4-600 more a year.Have had a few claims and a few tickets since I now have a daughter driving,my rates haven't changed that much though. So if it were me I would ask these new guys how many tickets you can get before they drop you.Good luck.

Very good point and one I had not considered for the same reasons you mention about SF. I'll ask the question. Thanks
If you're old enough, try going thru Aarp. They run it with the Hartford and is very reasonable. Deeper discounts if they have both auto and home. Have been with them for over 10 years and it has been great. Saved a lot of money.
I had a very good experience with AARP Hartford also for almost 15 years and then for no reason they could adequately explain they jacked my auto rates almost 30% last year even though I had no tickets or change in vehicles. I had my home insured with them as well.
I've been with PEMCO for 15 years Good rates and service. Have auto, home and excess umbrella. Have a package discount along with discounts for claim and ticket free years
we have been with state farm since 87 (well my husband has been lol I have only been with them since 97 lol)
but the reason why we stay with them is our agent. hes a car guy & great. he even knows about our HOBBIES & lets us know the current rules if something happens. plus he also gets me tickets for the auto show lol Whole books of them.
AARP/Hartford here too. I was amazed how much we saved on insurance. You can go to the AARP website and do a quick quote and compare. That is what I did and very glad I checked them out. You only have to be 50-years old or older to qualify for membership/insurance. It beat my Allstate insurance (that I have had for prior 25-years) all to hell! Insurance claims are a breeze too.
Thanks to all of you who have responded to my thread. It has really opened my mind to some of the issues that can occur when changing insurance companies. Very helpful information and advice. I think I'm going to go with what had been shaping up as my second choice.
USAA for all the cars but one. Over the years I have received some quotes from insurers that weren't even close. The others wouldn't waste the time quoting me when I said I already had USAA. Service has always been excellent as well. The one car not covered by them qualifies through Grundy as a collector car. Even cheaper than USAA but I have a few limitations on use. Never had to file a claim with them.
i was with Safeco 30+ years. Two years ago I did a comparison of most insurance companies. Pemco was the cheapest by far for comparable coverage. My house policy went up slightly in the second year but was more than offset by a reduction in my auto coverage. I also have earthquake and an umbrella policy through them. However they do not cover collector cars so my vette is with JC Taylor.
If you would like to review the number of complaints filed statewide by type of coverage and by carrier go to the following website: https://fortress.wa.gov/oic/complaints/
This can be helpful in selecting a personal lines (home and auto) carrier.

I have USAA for both Corvettes, my truck and my home. Been with them for 20+ years and never had an issue. I have a friend that is a SF agent and he told me that he couldn't even come close to the premiums I pay for my coverage levels.
There are companies that are always raising premiums. While shopping around may be a good thing in terms of finding low rates, some companies may offer a "teaser" rate to get you in and then start raising rates over a period of years.
Other companies will watch your driving record very carefully at first; get a ticket or two and they will consider you to be a high risk driver and either raise your rates substantially or dump you. And having your car insurance canceled is just as big of a warning to other companies as are lots of tickets.
I have had state farm for so many years I can't remember how long. But I have had excellent service over the years and so far no one has come close to what I pay now. I have the maximum deductions, multi-car, accident free, non smoker, married, over 50 blah blah......

20+ years with USAA also. One of the best gifts my father gave me as I became an adult and a gift I have had the pleasure in passing on to my daughter.
