I'd be suspicious of the key too. But it could be a starter relay the solenoid or the starter itself.

Did you try to start the car with the shifter in Neutral? There can also be a problem with the shifter not moving far enough forward into the Park position so that the interlock doesn't engage.

Loose battery cables can be a problem as mentioned. Does either battery cable seem loose? There could be some corrosion between the cable ends and the terminals on the battery. Doesn't take much for losing enough contact area to where the starter won't get the amperage needed to turn over, yet everything else in the car works.

This has happened to me. Wouldn't budge the starter, but everything else worked. Only took a couple minutes to fix.

Indeed, I was aware of that, Mike. Blue, I'm guessing, was the only politically correct color they could use. Use of nearly any other color would have had everyone from the Urban League to The American Indian Movement all over GM like a cheap suit. Do they even make a blue ZR-1?

Okay, okay, just a little joking here. I am not looking to arouse you Civil Rights Attorneys or Democrats.

Same thing happened to me a couple of years ago......had it towed to a nearby shop but when I got in it after it was rolled off the trailer it started right up. I replaced my battery and it has never happened again. But I am inclined to think it was a low voltage issue with the security system and it has disabled the starter for a pre-set period of time.

Hey I actually posted that I went back and it started right up. I tried a couple tricks that I saw on a post, including cleaning the contact things on my key. But it totally started right up and have driven it off and on today. Headed out of town this weekend but when I get back I think I'll take a look at starter and solenoid thing and make sure it's getting full power. Will also check out battery cables as well.
