What's wrong with an auto? I don't hear anyone pining away for the days of yore when you had to get out of your vehicle to turn the crank to start it...
Maybe we should go back to the days of pre-ABS and before our cars had power steering?
Of course, if I didn't need an auto to work with my hand controls, I might still be of the same mind.
When I went looking for my c5, all the manual cars I found were worn out track rats, or had obvious signs of abuse. However, I did not check out any Z06's since I wanted the space that the targa top offered for touring storage. Every one I examined had badly worn out shifters, grinding, blow out bushings, and even cracked wheels! I finally decided on a garage queen, with an auto, and never looked back. Now I'm looking at doing a torque converter and gears, and THAT excites me PLUS I drive a stick in all my other cars, so I was getting kinda sick of it.

Well at least I know what I'm missing out on, what with my background and all. I realize you can't control an a4 to the same degree as an m6, but as with all things, it was a calculated decision. I don't race competitively anymore, and most of my time in the seat is light-light stuff, or WOT top speed checks, so I don't necessarily "need it"
My point Erik is what better than a proper sportscar to be fully involved in the driving of it....Thats all. Sure, I've owned trucks, suv's and mini vans, all of those were auto's. But everyone one of my fun cars over the last 40+ years have had manuals. And I drive in bumper to bumper traffic at times, no matter, it never bugs me.
Okay, I'll chime in. The new 8-speed auto in the C7 is pretty good. I believe I read somewhere that performance matches that of the manual. I read somewhere that Ferraris, and likely Porsche will soon not be available with manual transmissions. Yes, I realize that these will likely be the dual clutch F1 / PDK and not quite the same as the paddle shift auto on the C7.
Admittedly my C6 has a manual and for me it is perfect in that car. Adds to the enjoyment of driving it. Of course it's not a daily driver and if I would buy a new C7 I'd probably opt for the auto. Especially if I used it as a daily driver. Remember, this is not the old 4-speed auto from the earlier generation models.
Do you still wear a watch you have to wind manually?
Not worn a watch in over 10yrs, that said part of my 30yr anv with Boeing the only gift I liked was a Citizen Chronograph so looks like I will on very rare occasions wear one once again. Have a bunch of old ones live in an old check book box...Ha Ha

Me too. Now that I'm retired and frequently have to buy Poodle Girl a wee dram of single malt Islay scotch, I can no longer afford to go anywhere where I would need to dress up.
Besides, once retired you often have no use for a calendar much less a watch. Your physician's office will let you know when your appointment is approaching.
I will confess to wearing a chronograph with numerous dials and buttons, but lost the instruction manual so am not sure what thy are for.. Besides I refuse to get stronger glasses anyway, so no big deal.

Be happy to show you what those buttons do some time! Ha Ha

The base Corvette/Z51 is about a tenth of a second faster to 60 with the 8 speed. The Z06 with the A8 is about 3 tenths faster to 60 as per Chevy (2.9 vs 3.2 for the manual).
Around a track, which is what I care for, I'm sure the auto and manual are fairly even. It would be interesting to see how they compare because you'll shift less with the manual (longer gears), but the auto will technically accelerate the car faster on the straights since it has shorter gear ratios.
I probably would go with the manual Z06 if I were to buy one, but there's no doubt the auto is a great performer.
By the way, Ferrari hasn't offered a manual in any car since the 430, which stopped production in 2009. Porsche on the other hand is actually offering a manual in the upcoming 991.2 GT3 and possibly the 991.2 GT3 RS (the 991.1 versions are/were only offered with the PDK, which is a great transmission). Not to mention they still offer a manual in pretty much everything minus the 911 Turbo and SUVs.

Mine showed up yesterday, took to the jeweler next to BECU in Issaquah and he sized it for my skinny wrist. The phone makes it look all gold but it both silver and gold. Nice inscription on the back with my name, Boeing and year of my 30th with them. Of course the metal band bugs my hairy arm....why I always wore leather bands before.
