Default Bubble

Have a small bubble on 05 C6 a few inches in front of driver's door mirror.
There is also what appears to be a line beneath the paint further out and around the mirror. Tried photos but this doesn't show. Bubble is 1/8 inch round. 50,000 miles on Vette. Seems like factory defect but out of warranty. Any ideas??

Thank you

paint is either delaminating or its a gas bubble form the release agents in the SMC. Dont mess with it until it gets bigger, if you poke at it or anything it could chip off. You'll most likely have to get the door and fenders blended to match correctly. - Roger

Has the car ever had any repair work that you know of? In addition to what Hippie mentioned it could also be a condition called "solvent popping". This happens when the wrong thinner is used for the temperature conditions in the shop where the door was sprayed. The surface of the paint flashes dry too quickly and solvents are trapped beneath the surface. These solvents try to escape and lift the paint causing a bubble.

Is this something you just noticed after 50,000 miles? Or did it just appear? Did you have the car since new? Could have had a scratch repaired at some time and as stated before, a little solvent pop causing the bubble.

Bought the Vette new (12 miles on odometer). Noticed it a week ago after washing. Never noticed before and wash once a week. I'm the type that knows where every mark is on my Vette. Keep it clean and polish or spot polish often. Believe it has recently occurred.

Thank you

Sounds like the dealer might have done a little pre-delivery repair work. It's common that some vehicles show up at the dealer with minor blemishes/scratches from shipping/etc. The dealer will repair the damage before the car hits the lot. Solvent pop from a factory paint job is extremely rare. I would have a reputable body shop look at the car. If they can determine that the door was repainted you might be able to get the dealer to repair the door for you.

And if they repaired it withouttelling you, you can sue them, and get the car for free...... atleast you can do that in MD. i would imagine you can do it in the other 49.

I would guess this was touched up at the dealer from delivery. This happens all the time. In California, they are not obligated to disclose this unless the damage is over a certain dollar amount. But I would think the dealer would have some kind of record and fix it again.

In my opinion, leave it alone untill it gets bigger. I have a thread started on warranty paint work and all the issues that I have ran into. If it doesnt bother you that much, let it go and start saving for an entire paint job.
Good Luck.
