Default build up panels to level height?

what's the best way to build up the height of the fenders and hood to even them out? differences are 1/8" to 3/16" in spots and i'd like to do a little better.

If I understand this correctly, you want better alignment between the hood and the top of the fenders. Some of this adjustment is made before bonding the inner skirts to the fenders. You may have to break the skirts loose and adjust as required. Also adjusting the lower splash guards while the panels are loose helps lift the fenders in spots. Also the hood has shims under the hinges for adjustment as well.

it's a one piece clip. it's level at the wiper door, and hinge area, but the hood is a little high half way between, and the nose of the hood is a little lower than the surround. not a lot, but i'd like to get it a little more even before paint. it's almost as though the curves of the surround and hood (both aftermarket ) are a little different.

Scott is right on the money. I had to break loose the fender on one side on my 69 to get it level. I had to do it on a 66 a while back too. It is easier to do on a C2 than a C3 as the bonding area is easier to get to.

You could do it with polyester primer, but it would be better to adjust it if it is more than 1/8th.

Even though your surround and hood are aftermarket, it isn't uncommon to see it that far off from the factory. My 69 had never been hit on the side I had to adjust.

thanks for the replys.
the reason i posted is that in the tech pages that came with the clip, it shows and describes body filler used to level the hood and surround. i just didn't think that adding that much filler sounded like a good idea.

That is a typical problem that a lot of vettes have. It happens with aftermarket glass.I could tell you a way to fix it with without taking half the car apart ...
(since the problem you have is only in the middle and not on the edges, cutting your wheelhouses probably wont help anyway)

but then I 'd have to kill you

Seriously,If you havent fixed it yet as of this writing, let me know

I had the same problem with the hood being high in the middle of one side by 1/4 inch or more. I was skepticle about the repair process but I went along with my body guy as he had done this on a mid year before. We cut the body panel down the middle of the verticle surface from front to back, along the entire panel. The part you see when the hood is open, next to the edge of the hood. Then spread that 1/16 cut to about 1/4 or until you get the desired lift and secure with small pieces of metal and screws. Then clean and glass about a 1.5-2 inch strip on the inner fender well where the cut was made.(behind the front tire). After it has cured the clips can be removed from the engine side and it can be filled with glass and/or filler. The only thing that looks different when you are completed is that the approx 3/4 verticle surface along the inside edge of the hood opening is now more like 1 inch. Let me know if you want any pics, I think I have a couple.

i just happen to have taken my car to two paint shops yesterday for estimates($5000 and $4000), and they both suggested the same procedure to level the panels. i'm happy to hear that others also do the same. thanks for the reply.
