Hello,
I am considering using a product called pti epoxy primer as my sealer after blocking my 65. We have extra from a project from restoring an aircraft here at work. An old t-33 trainer. This is a yellow tinted primer and we got it from aircraft spruce. Here is the data sheet.
It cost over 200 dollars a gallon and i would hate to let it expire before it is used. We have about 7 months left on its shelf life. Can I use this? Wouldn't all epoxy primer be about the same? Thanks bob
If I were you, I would at the very least contact the manufacturer of the paint and ask what they think AND THAT IS IF YOU INSIST on using it. What value do you place on all of the prep work you have done to get the car to this stage? I would guess a bit north of $200. There are a number of different epoxies out there. With aluminum aircraft adhesion is a tricky business, especially in light of the trend of limiting the use of the old style zinc chromate primers. I would assume this epoxy may be for proper adhesion to bare metal surfaces, especially aluminum. I believe zinc chromate to be one of the best adhesion style primers ever made but I would never use it as a sealer over another primer. Just because a primer is good for one purpose does not mean it is good for all. You can get by with about two quarts mixed of an automotive epoxy primer/sealer and potentially save a bunch of headaches. If you think of painting as chemistry and physics, then you are asking us what you think the result will be of you playing the mad scientist, if you get my drift. Good luck-Jiim
