Beginner needs help, please
I am in the beginning stages of a body off project on my 68 coupe. I have the body removed and the frame completely striped. Waiting on warmer weather to have my frame sandblasted so I can paint it before it starts to rust again. It appears to me that over on the C3 general forum that Por-15 is king. After reading old P/B post I am not sure it is so highly thought of over here.
I will be doing as much as I can on this project. Thinking maybe I could even paint my car. So I have a lot to learn before I can make a decision. Many years ago I helped get steel body cars ready to paint but never got to paint. I have been reading a lot of old P/B post. Would someone please go back to 1968 and explain the step by step process that was used to go from bare glass to wax.
In order for me to understand what I am reading I need to learn some of the P/B lingo. I have a list of words and terms I don’t fully understand so here goes. Sealer, resin, matt, primer surface, SMC, hold-out, gel-coat, DA, die-back, epoxy, long board, 2x primer, guide coat, polyester, “builds”, “seal with epoxy, epoxy first then primer”(from the post I thought epoxy was the primer), “surfacing”, “build and surfacing”, “resin over the fibers”.
I hope I haven’t worn out my welcome with my first P/B post.

SMC Sheet Molding Compound - Describes the unprocessed material the fiberglass parts are made from.
DA dual action - describes the complex elliptical motion of a sander that differentiaties it from the motion a circular sander or grinder.
guide coat - a misting of different color paint usually over primer that when sanded with a long board will help identify high and low spots. Guide coat typically must be completely removed prior to painting.
Good luck

After reading the long thread (I did read all 12 pages) on hotrodders.com suggested by roger 55 I will not be using POR 15. Will be following the advice of porchdog and BarryK.
Still would like someone go back to 1968 and explain the step by step process that was used to go from bare glass to wax. I would like to know what is on my car now.
Again thanks

From the bottom up was a red lacquer primer, a gray lacquer primer, the yellow lacquer topcoat and then another aftermarket lacquer job on top.
