I've got a couple of questions regarding Paint Durability...
I've been told serveral times that the factory paint on let's say a 90 Vette is more durable (more resistant to chips) than the paint would be if the car were repainted today.
Why is this?
Also does anyone know anything about the durability of Water Based Paints vs Solvent Based Paints?

I dont think the factory paint is less prone to chips, and certainly it isnt less likely to fade or deteriorate.

As far as chipping resistance, if the repainter is using a good quality urethane paint then it's really more about the adhesion than it is the paint.
A repaint could be worse, better or the same as the factory original depending on the process the painter performed. And there are a lot of variables there.
simple, the thicker the paint the bigger the chip. the factory does not pile on primer ,color and clear.
if you use the matrix brand it will chip no matter what. miserable paint, absolutely the most brittle paint i've ever tried.
