My kid has a old mustang, and takes it out to the desert with his friends. Gets a lot of scratches from brush and sand. We painted his car several years ago and is holding up. He color sands the scratches out quite often, and now he's burning through. His question is can he Scuff it all down and put a lot of good clear. How many coats of ppg clear can he put on before it fogs? He wants it to look good to
ppg will go south after 3 coats in a hurry. i use spi and do 6 coats. 3 block 3 polish.
Thanks "DOG" that's what I thought looking at some tech. sheets,
I like Deltron DBU base paint, Will Spi clear be compatible with DBU, I already have a Gallon of DBU black sapphire. I always have(want)
to color sand and polish.
dont see why not. i use ppg concept dcc single stage for color and spi universal clear over it. ppg and most other suppliers are production paints . 2 coats and out the door. you do much more and it just goes to hell. had i not found spi i was seriously considering retiring from the world of paint. you might touch base with Barry at spi to make sure.
Porchdog, I usually put 3-4 coats of clear PPG 2021 , wet sand 1000,1500,2500 buff. Am I asking for trouble by using this much clear ?? Will the problem occur down the road ? Any advice appreciated Thanks.
i just always had problems with ppg or dupont clears when used heavy. just my opinion. it will die back or solvent pop later on. the 57 restomod i am building has 6 coats of spi on it. i shot it in dec and did not buff until march . it buffed easy and had 0 shrinkage or die back. it's also a hell of a lot cheaper. i'm tired of getting hosed by them.
