I'm putting a new D/A sander on my Christmas list as I prepare give my C1 new paint. What's a good brand and what features should I look for in a sander. Thanks for the help.
The prices range from 40-300 dollars. You should be able to get a good quality one that will do the job for around $75. Ingersol rand , craftsman, even the lowes brand will do the job.
Just be careful when you use it so you dont end up needing more than just a paint job when you are done

make sure you do a couple things it matches the PSI out put of your compressor or in my case I bought a 13 gallon and hooked up a "t" to my 20 gallon
if you dont match it up it will quickly run out of air you will sand...wait.....sand.....wait
HI There:
Good timing. There are lots of great package deals.I just bought a complete starter kit from autogeek.com. free shipping, tool bag & a lot of pads,2 microfiber cloths, porter cable model 7424 da polisher, 25ft. cord upgrade($20 extra) $219.They have a lot of how to videos. Another site which I wish I had known about before hand is www. pinnacle wax.com 10% off (over$50.) a/geek has 15% off over $95 dollars only for 2 days. I also bought some advanced swirl remover & advanced finishing polish & a brush from pinnacle.Looks like a easy system to follow with maximum results. You can always refer to the videos or print out the step by step procedures. This polisher can be used as a sander too. Of course you'll have to buy the attachments.

Do you like your C1? If you do, NEVER use a D. A. sander. JMO....I never use a D.A. on a vette....JMO. If you decide to, be careful not to dig holes in your vette. The C1 has alot of rounded surfaces which will be totally in-effective to use. JMO...... Me? On vettes, I wet sand with a rubber block by hand. Good luck!

this would only be true for someone that has no experiance with a d/a. i have been using a d/a sander on corvettes for 25 years, get great results but you do have to be careful and know what your doing!!

Gotta keep moving and don't get lazy and use too low a grit. I love my Dynabrade D/A. It is incredible. I don't have hands that keep buzzing after I stop sanding.
And what brand/type of paper and grit are you guys using? I'm looking at stripping my 89, and I haven't used a DA before. I'll have to get a compressor too.
I had thought of using a paint stripper. They make some that are supposed to be safe for SMC and safe for the Urethane bumpers.
What's the best kind of DA? Palm or hand held? I haven't used a DA before.
I have very little use for an air sander on a fiberglass body, steel bodies are a different story. Most palm sanders have a small 3/16" orbit which is for finer work. A conventional style sander can have up to a 3/8" orbit and some will also have a locking shaft for grinding motion, thus Dual Action. The larger orbit is better for feathering. The palm is better for fast scuffing. All depends on what you want to do.

I'm gonna strip my 89 down to the black factory sealer. So, I'm needing one sander to do this. I have seen some electric powered sanders, are those any good for sanding paint off plastic cars? That would save me from then having to get an air compressor.
