Default T-Top Question

I have pulled the weatherstripping off one of my t-tops on my 75. I noticed in the process that something was rattling around on the inside of the top so I removed the interior panel and found nothing. I shock it around some more and it was still making noise. I removed/broke off the screws holding the chanell and drilled out the rivets on the flat piece below it and removed it. After all this I see no way to seperate the inner and outer halves of the t-top to remove the loose objects. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the objects out? Appears that the two halves of the t-top are bonded together with some sort of body filler.

I haven't tried getting T-Tops apart, but I've found that the factory bonding adhesive comes apart fairly easily if you heat it with a heat gun. I'm not sure if this same bonding adhesive was used to bond the tops together, but so far I've only seen one type of adhesive used.

So what type of bonding adhesive is it? Would like to know so in case I do have to seperate the panels. Would like to know what to use to bond them back together without problems later on. Thanks

Don't know what it is or if you can still even get it. I use Marine-Tex to bond with. It's very strong but I doubt it's possible to separate without tearing the panels to shreds.

Your local paint supply house should have panel adhesive for the SMC bodies. SEMS and Evercoat both make a product for this.

I had the same thing in one of my tops, someone had replaced the weather strip and broke off the white plastic inserts inside! i just live with it i see no way to get inside a t-top without destroying it.

I have the same thing,it happened when I removed the weatherstrip. I think that it may also be the head of a rivet also because I removed my chrome for painting and had to drill out the rivets. It only makes a noise when you put the tops on or off , I live with it.
