Default refresh my memory please

Hey Guys,
I have another body work question.
I think that I have asked this a while back, but I was unable to find the answer in my notes. So I'll ask again.

After I make the fiberglass repairs, but before I use the sealer on the bare glass, what products do ya'll use/recommend to fill the small pin holes/nicks and help with maintaining the smooth body shape.

Thanks
KO

I'm curious about the 870/880. Is it easy to sand? Im complete with all my body work. Shot primer today. Just gonna need some spot putty next. Whats a good putty or should I stay with a filler and get the little pinholes.?

rayluka,
The Vette Panel adhesive is easy to sand.... BUT...and this is a BIG BUT...you HAVE to get it sanded close to your desired contour before it ROCKS UP!!! AND it does rock up quite hard...but it is still sand-able. I like it because it is very strong as an adhesive for fiberglass repairs and is an awesome body filler also. AS long as you know how to deal with it...it is not that hard to work with at all. I have been using it for over 20 years and when I do use RAGE GOLD...(not on Vettes...butm metal cars from time to time) I can complete body repairs so fast...because the RAGE GOLD is a lightweight filler and is easily sand-able.

As for a spot putty or filler for your pin holes and such. You can use one of Fiberglass/ Evercoats spot putties. JUST AS LONG as it is the type that requires a hardener to be added to make it harden. I think that the "Euro-soft" spot putty is fine. I prefer the liguid type ( in a squeeze tube)that requires a hardener so it can flow easily into small holes and such. Once again...I rarely use the stuff on a Vette...because I prefer to use a razor blade and the Vette Panel ahdesive and fill in all my pinholes. The razor blade is so you can work the putty into the hole and not have such a large amount on top of you repair...so it will be easy to sand down. NOTHING is worse when somewone puts spot putty on a pinhole...and when they are done... it looks as thick as a "pad of butter".

For the record...RAGE GOLD is a good filler...but Fiberglass Evercoat does offer a filler that is heavier duty...so to speak....and has a lot more capabilities engineered into it....and that is the Vette Panel Adhesive. And for me...I much rather use a filler that is as hard as the body when cured....and is more than just a filler. But that is just me...and all others can use what they wish. Just my opinion.

Best to all,

Hey DUB,

I have a question about the Vette Panel adhesive. I just spent a great deal of time grinding out some seams and reglassing them to remove the existing seam/adhesive. So please understand my concern about adding more back on. Or is this stuff completely different from what the factory used? I'm still new to this so thanks for answering all of my questions.

KO,
the Vette Panel Adhesive is VERY close to what GM used. IT is not like what was used for earlier years and they changed the adhesive during your era.

A long time ago...when red hardener was the normal color used for activating fillers and what have you...when the red hardener was used with the Vette Panel Adhesive...is matched the color of the adhesive used by GM so closely it was about impossible to tell. The textures are the same and theh gripping power is the same. It gets as hard as GM's adhesive. IT is the closest I have found to use. The reason the red hardeners have been removed from many lines is the "bleed through" that can occur...or did occur years back when it was used. Now blue hardener is the norm.

NOW there is another product that can be used for bonding fiberglass/SMC panels ONLY...but it is not a filler...ONLY an Adhesive

The Vette Panel Adhesive/Filler is both Part # 870 (quart) #880 (gallon)
PM me and I will give you any more info and my phone number if you want to call me and I can talk to you about it in more detail.

IT IS the ONLY filler I use on Corvettes like yours.
