Default clear on emblems?

finally finished the buffing on the 72. turned out ok for a garage job. two little pits that i am undecided about leaving or filling with a drop of clear.
question of the day, though, is-has anybody cleared the emblems? especially the gas tank lid. the original paint is intact, but dull. would the clear attack the old paint?
also, i am thinking of painting the "stingray" emblems with epoxy, base and clear and removing the paint from the top surface so the chrome is exposed. anyone do this? how does it look?

Normally when I run into a Corvette like yours...whose emblems are in good condition ( in regards to the quality of the chroime plating) BUT the color is faded or flaking off. I chemically strip them and re-paint them. But understand that I have a paint mixing service in my shop where I can custom mix up the red that is required for the emblem. As for the white and black...that is a "no-brainer".

As for your question about adding a drop of clear to make the colors shine again....all I can say is try it. I have never done this due to when I re-paint the emblems the color is a single stage and dries with a very decent gloss to it...so no clear is required.

"Stingray" emblems I do not waste my time on. I replace them due to the double sided tape that is often times needed to aid in securing it to the body will often times get damaged...and trying to replace it is a ROLYAL PAIN in the backside. AND in my opinion...nothing looks better when a fresh paint job has new emblems on it along with other components that make it stand out as being "freshened up".
