Default Question for Dub.

Dub,

Since I'll be starting the fiberglass/paint phase of my project soon, I've been reading the paint/body forum and just posted my first question. You've stated here that a guy like me who has never done this (except a little bit 36 years ago hanging out in my buddy's shop, sanding and sanding and sanding my vette to keep the cost of the paint job down), should read some books and the thread.

I have some old "paint your car yourself" books and asked questions at the local auto paint suppl shop. What book or website do you recommend so I can learn about modern paint products and techniques. I'll be doing this in my home garage and haven't bought any guns or equipment yet. I have a little 4.5 gallon job site compressor from Home Depot that I know won't be adequate. It barely keeps my air grinder running.

Thanks,

Thanks,
Yes, you will need to obtain a much larger compressor. As for any books, video's or any thing like that. I know of nothing that I can recommend. I have read several books and watched video's and there is always something that I disagree with..and end up putting the book down or turning the TV off due to what is being recommended/suggested has been something I have tried and DOES NOT WORK!!! OR...key steps are omitted which can result in a catastrophe. Too much editing for me when it comes to instructional books/videos. BUT...I will be more than glad to take the time to talk to you on the phone and answer any questions you may have...or explain the processes that are currently used in the industry for the current materials that are offered. The book you have still has the basics...and that is important to know. But when it comes down to very particular repairs...that is something we can discuss. Talking on the phone will cover much more ground that for me to type for hours on one subject. So call would be best...and if needed...posting or e-mailing a photo of your "issue" will greatly help also.

Hope to hear from you...and seeing how I have nothing to gain/profit from this...I will be giving you years of experience in what I know works for me when I do this for other customers. One again...this will be my HONEST opinion...for what ever that is worth to you.
