Default Rear Clip Replacement

Does anyone have a walk through of how to replace the rear clip. I have the basic ideas but I was hoping to see some tricks and tips. I am using a 1-piece ACI rear clip. Thanks

I assume it is a t-top car...correct?

The lock pillar panels are not attached..are they? (Where your door striker bolt is installed)

You will be doing a whole lot of grinding and panel separation.

It would be better to grind away the panel instead of damaging the mounting flange 9 by trying to split them apart) where the new clip needs to be bonded.

I am willing to help...just PM me and we can go from
there...if you care to.

Yes Its a t-top car. The lock pillars are not attached. I have the panels separated. I'm really just looking for help trying to get the clip to line up with everything else and hold it in place during bonding. Thanks

Personally I do not like to drill any holes in a panel to secure it while bonding is taken place. I try...at all costs to avoid this. And IF I have to use a screw...I drill a hole in an area where a panel (such as rock panel) will aid in covering up the repaired hole when completed....AND I NEVER drill a hole in an exterior surface...NO NEED TO DO THAT.

You can use clamp , weights, tape... anything that will allow you to secure this clip while the bonding adhesive is setting up. The whole "TRICK" to this is to get your set-up CORRECT..FIRST!!!!. Make any reference marks, Remove everything and do a "dry-test" (with NO adhesive). Time yourself and while installing this clip CALMLY...see how long it takes to achieve the proper fit. This will allow you to do it with adhesive WITHOUT running around like you have your head cut off. Then take a CAREFUL look at ALL of the bonding flanges...and see how much distance you have between the clip and the bonding area. This will allow you to DRAW a schematic of where you might need more adhesive...and less adhesive. Instead of piling on the adhesive and wasting material if it is not needed....or needing more adhesive and not applying enough. You may find that you might just install and remove this clip several times BEFORE you actually apply your adhesive. Prepping the area on the backside of the clip CORRECTLY is CRITICAL...so you might want to..when ever it is possible/accessible ...to use a pencil and mark where you bonding areas are...so when you prep it...you are only grinding in those areas. Then...use the pencil again...so you will know where to apply adhesive ( depending on what type of adhesive you plan to use.
