I have a 91 red ZR1 with original paint that has a lot of significant scratches in the clear. The base color still looks good and I don't really want to do a complete repaint. Is it possible to scuff/prep and re shoot the entire car with clear only with any success? If so what product would you recommend? I have shot a lot of base/clear jobs over the years but they were entire repaint jobs done all at the same time not repairs.
Reclearing the car requires every preparation step that an overall job does less applying the basecoat, and you'll have to stress about cutting through the color at every turn. Why short the job if you're going to go through all that effort?

The odds that you prep it without breaking through the basecoat is HIGHLY UNLIKELY. I would get it prepped and completely dull. While wiping down the surface with you surface cleaner....look for any area that you may have broken through the color. Dust a coat of color on the car...and clear.
