Default Media Blasting ???

What's the latest on Blasting...any new Media that works on Corvettes ( my '86)? I heard something about a Plastic one that's supposed to work well. I'd think clean up might be a chore, but... I don't want Soda; as I would use SPI Epoxy, and I'm leary of Chemical Strippers. I've stripped with a Razor Blade once, but I'm too old and It takes too long to do that again; unless I have to. Thanks...

Plastic media blasting "possibly" can work well for you.

The issues I have found is that it can depend on how hard, thick or "rubbery" your clearcoat is and how it reacts to being blasted. Some clearcoats can be a bit resistant...(much like trying to blast silicone/RTV off of something steel...the media just bounces off of it) and when the person blasting the finish breaks through the clear...it becomes easier to remove some of the undercoats....which in turn can cause for excessive blasting on the edge of where the clear is still adhered...thus causing for an "eating away" of the SMC.

Urethane bumpers can be a TOTAL JOY...so make sure you to a test area...and do this the same on the body where it will be easy to repair if something catastrophic occurs.

No easy task...regardless of what method you choose to use.

there is no media that can remove paint that will not damage glass . soda is among the lowest on the mohs scale at 2.5 . type 6 acrylic is 3.0 . even soda can destroy a vette body unless used by a trained operator .

Just take your time...set a goal for that day and get to that goal. By looking at the "WHOLE CAR" as a whole...it can easily discourage anybody (even myself)...so I set what I know I can achieve...and before you know it...it is DONE!!

I could not agree more...ESPECIALLY the part about "trained operator". I have seen body panels so badly damaged by some "BOZO" that it can almost total out the car....especially depending on year and current value of Corvette.
