I have acquired a 62 that has been media blasted. Body looks very good with some minor cracks. I have repaired fiberglass but not sure what the recommended primer and sealer should be. Actually would like to know step by step before final single stage top coat.
You will have as many opinions as there are posters on this site. Check the posts of DUB and Porchdog, both of whom are pros. I have received VERY valuable information from both of them. Good luck and have fun.
depends on the car. i use epoxy for primer as i'm not a fan of urethane primer at all . like dub i also have used gel coat to resurface a car. it just depends on what kind of damage you have. one of the worst i ever got involved with was a hail damaged car. damage was so severe no amount of primer would fix. it had been repaired twice before it came to me. it was stripped and blocked aggressively with 80 grit then gel coated . each car is different when dealing with fiberglass .
The cracks and where they are at and how you plan to fix them , etc.
I ...personally would gelcoat it after all repairs have been made. I ...like porchdog have used epoxy primer in the past but I have gone to using gelcoat on non-SMC cars. I prefer what it offers over epoxy primer. It will take a special gun that can apply it and correct application procedures and film thickness to make it even worth while.
Using a polyester primer is also possible...nut I do not know what you want and it also usually requires a large tipped gun to shoot it also....due to being so thick.
It all depends on what you want and how far you care to take it.
