Back Deck stress marks?
I found this line running through the back deck between the gas lid and spoiler. It does not have an edge, or separate like a crack. I cannot catch it with anything, and it is really smooth. Since this area is very thin and flexible; could it be a stress line or defect in the panel. Is this common for this area? This pic is hard to see, but it looks like a crack; however it is not. Should I grind it or leave it? Thanks.
I hate writing this...BUT USE COMMON SENSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THE OBVIOUS...well ventilated area...nothing that can create a SPARK or ignite a flammable vapor.
You can take a paper towel saturated with automotive grade lacquer thinner and wipe this area and get it wet. While doing so.....press on the area around this 'crack' from the top and bottom and keep it wet and soak in to the crack. Then...begin to lightly wipe it dry but not all the away and see if when the lacquer thinner is dryign up and flashing off....you can see that some of the lacquer thinner actually got down inside this 'crack' and it is now taking more time for it to get dry. Sometimes I do this with the loop and I can see the thinner get squeexed out a very little.
You can always err on the side of caution and test it a little with a grinder and see how the fiberglaas reacts.
