Thanks, i was just about to go out and start today. I didn't clean them before or after I used them on the one door. I'll clean them before I start today and after I finish

AIN'T that the TRUTH! Funny thing is when people compound and buff and a start with a clean pad and never stop and realize that the longer they use it is NOT like it was when they first started buffing.

Well seems I can't attach a picture to a PM so here it is. I chipped the door putting it away fot the day. Chipped it on the back of the car, that I can remedy. What's the best way to repair this? Flake the chip off, paint dabs, clear dabs, sand or what?

Plus I hope that ridge line is nothing cause I'm too pissed off now to go out and look at it.

Edit, the ridge line is nothing, must be due to the flash.

IF this happened to me...I would be vomiting right now due to being so sick to my stomach....I HATE IT FOR YOU....I HAVE been there before. Being PISSED OFF is a total understatement.

MY FIRST ATTEMPT.... on repairing this is to prep the clear for re-painting on the entire OUTSIDE of the door.....so something like 500 grit...BUT I doubt that I would go any finer than 800 grit WET. Back taping around the entire door. I would repair the spot and get it right.

THEN...re-paint it JUST LIKE you did when you painted the car. AND...the TRICK here NOT getting too crazy with the paint. BECAUSE IF the door were ON the car for your FINAL dusting of paint and getting the metallics RIGHT....then painting this EDGE of the door CAN throw off the color where it meets the fender IF you do not get it right. Which is why I mentioned...NOT getting crazy with the paint and pounding it on. Keeping your repair to only what you need...but yet enough to get a good blend out.

CALL ME if you need me to talk you through some specifics. Because there is another alternative...but you REALLY do not want me to get into that one. But it would more than likely be an alternative I WOULD have to use due to getting paid to paint Corvettes.

This was due to my own STUPIDITY. I wanted to finish buffing the doors off the car, get the weather stripping on and then put them back on. I was JUST about at that point. I THOUGHT I was careful in putting the doors back inside my workplace BUT OBVIOUSLY I WAS NOT. I knew horsing these doors in and out WAS A BAD IDEA, SO, it is what it is. It is too cold out now and even inside my unheated garage for any spraying. Tomorrow, I will bring the door inside the house to assess the situation. I had the door outside cause I had just buffed it out to machine glaze. I did my roof and was finishing up for the day. I was thinking of just throwing a cover over the door (it was positioned outside on one of those alum saw horses) but I've jackassed that door back and forth a dozen times without incident. I guess today was a dozen times minus 1 too much. Thank you for your reply and detailed explanation. Tomorrow (today) is another day. There are worse problems in the world than my door

Thanks Porchdog, just finished the back section (except below the fender line) with V34 orange pad and V36 Pink pad. Looks good. Still need to do V38 and Glossworkz on that section. Brought "the" door inside, didn't formulate a plan it yet. FWIW, anyone using Chemical Guys products (which are working out great), I would STRONGLY RECOMMEND using latex or rubber gloves AND a respirator - that is unless they like flying a foot off the ground. Stay cool

Great progress. Yeah we have a couple cold days but it's supposed to be in the 50's this weekend. Keep at it while you can!

Will fix that oops chip above the l/s tail lights, where I wacked it with the door, on Friday when it is supposed to be 65 degrees.
