Clear coat patching question
The door first - Can I respray the white just where I sanded through and laydown a couple coats of clear there and then one coat across the whole top of the door?
Now on to the bumper, I did the same on the top of the bupmer where it kicks up a bit only I just spotted the white and then the clear. It was sanded to 1500 a couple weeks ago. Should I go back over the whole bumper with a coat of clear or?
BTW- Sealer, Base and 2K clear by Wanda. Door was painted a week ago.
Thanks
Jeff
PERSONALLY/PROFESSIONALLY 'SPEAKING'...I rarely use 1000 grit and sand the entire panel all the way down. It is taking way too much clear off doing this....because when I have to follow up with 1500...it is taking off more. I use 1000 grit to remove pesky nibs and an occasional sag/run. But the rest of the clear is sanded with 1500.
If a person wants to 1000 girt...then 1500....then 2000 grit and so on. Keep in mind every stage of the sanding process is removing more clear.,..and you CAN have a break through. This ALSO depends on how well the person applied the clear....and how many coats...and with what type of paint gun.
IF a person has a concern about this. Then as I write quite often. Shoot a TEST PANEL EXACTLY as you plan on shooting the car and sand it and see what happens. Using a paint mil gauge and seeing how much clear you are actually applying. So there is NO GUESSING.
And remember this....if a person shoots a test panel and it is laying flat on a work table....it will take more paint than if you also shoot a test panel standing upright. The travels peed that you can get away with on a flat panels is NOT the same and when your gun moves to a vertical panel. Becasue if you stay at the same travel speed and distance...chances are you will get RUNS.
