My white car's been painted over a year and it looks pretty good but it doesn't have the "pop" I think it should have. The question is, is it worth cutting and buffing or the white won't really show the effects? I've polished it with my random orbital polisher and it helped. Also are the foam pads better than the wool pads? Any suggestions are appreciated.
UNLESS you know what was applied to it....and how many coats were applied...what type of gun was used.....this idea of sanding and buffing can come out perfectly...or turn into a real disaster really fast.
Wool pads and foam pads have their uses and each do a specific type of job. I have both and use both when I buff/polish one of my paint jobs. I also have a variable speed circular buffer...and I also use an orbital....each of them have their purpose in the buffing/polishing process. Generally...(at least the orbital I have) an orbital is used towards the end of the process and is not really effective on removing sanding scratches.
Have I buffed and polished a car using nothing but foam pads...YES I HAVE...but I prefer wool to start off with...and still end up with a scratch/swirl free mirror finish.
Not being able to see what you have as a texture in your finish currently...it is HARD to exactly know what to tell you to do.
Thanks Dub. I have the Griots orbital and it's done a good job but like you said it's not made for buffing after cutting. I was planning to buy a variable rotary if I decided to try it. I'm not sure of the paint but that info is at home.
