Will a 5 Star 2K High Build Urethane Primer Work with
High Gloss Candy Single Stage Acrylic Enamel? and how many gallons of paint would be needed to paint my 74 coupe? Thanks.

It says that ANY paint system can be applied on it.
AS for a single stage CANDY acrylic enamel makes no sense to me.
You have to understand that when you use the word CANDY...it means something VERY SPECIFIC and is not just the name that use to give paint color...but rather it is a specific paint system. Mainly a tri-stage.
So...a true CANDY paint takes a base color that the car is painted first...then the CANDY which is a translucent paint is applied on it...then CLEAR is applied on it.
SO....there is no way for me to tell you how much paint you need until I really know what you are using.
And this can also change GREATLY due to the type of paint gun you use during the paint job....and than...having to take into consideration how fast the color actually covers due to many colors are weak in toner strength and may taken MANY coats to get to full hiding.
I am not trying to tell you anything on how to do what you want to do...but I know that if you were at my shop and wanting me to apply a singe stage candy on your car..I would not. For the obvious reasons I had just mentioned where the candy needs to have a clear applied on top of it to protect it. Or at least that is how I do it...and others may not do it that way.

Your 'bad' again....you are still not understanding because you are using the word 'candy apple' again.
So...it is a red paint that is being called 'CANDY APPLE'????....correct?
Basically a red paint like a fire engine?

I have no clue...go out and buy 2 gallons if you want. You can;t even ask easy questions....
Not knowing what you are using...buy 2 gallons so you have a lot left over.
Not knowing the ratios of reducer and hardener and IF the toners/pigments in the paint you plan on using are strong and cover fast. Who knows...no information.
Without any information....it is all guessing.
I tried to help...

i believe the color is the old mustang color and as dub said without knowing the brand there is no telling. some cover well others are **** water thin and take 6-8 coats to cover. the cheaper the paint the more it takes in most cases .
i buy 2 gals for every job . usually have 1/2 gal letft. pour it into qrt cans and send with customer for future repair .

This is the paint at 99.95 a gal I think it`s pretty cheap but it covered well on the T-tops. I bought a quart to try it out they only have 7 gal. left out of this batch so I need to buy it now even though it will be awhile before I actually start painting. Thanks again. TheMix is 8 Parts Paint, 1 Part Hardener, and 2 Parts Reducer. photo didn`t work but this is the mixture

So...a gallon of raw paint will make 5 1/2 quarts of shootable paint.
Not knowing how FAST the color went on in regards to the hiding effect of it....and the type of paint gun you are using....because paint gun design DOES make a difference in the percentage of paint transfer.....so...you have to figure it out on how much it took for you to shoot the T-tops and figure it out from there.
I think your 2 gallon 'quess-timate' should do... Heck that is 11 quarts of shootable paint. And I know with my paint gun...I could get by with less than that or at least have a lot of extra left over paint.

It may be deceiving to an experienced painter, when using the term "candy", that it isn't a 3 stage paint. But yes, Ford did call their bright red, as used on the '68-'69 Mustangs, 'candy apple red'. I did a fender repair for one of my buddies, on his Mustang, back then, and I remember that was what the color was called.....

And I am aware of that...but as you know...the color is not a 'candy' paint like used in tri-stage paint jobs. This is where what the color was called.... can effect how a response can be given and needed to be clarified.
