Your question leads me to ask "Why?". If your desire is to have a body colored top and your transparent top is in good shape, sell the transparent top and obtain a body colored top and have it painted. The body colored top is thicker and has some insulating qualities. On the other hand, the transparent top is lighter and somewhat easier to handle.

Default Thanks

I agree with you, however I only have the transparent top and it's in bad shape. So, I'm looking for a better option and painting this targa was a thought.

I do not paint them but people have painted them'.

You will need to contact the tech line of the manufacture of the paint company you choose to use and let them tell you what you need to apply on the acrylic so it will adhere.

And I will say that you might be shocked in what you will need to buy to just paint this top..

Would be much easier to just wrap it.

I recleared one a few years back. Hardest part was sanding the original finish off. Used Bullydog adhesion promoter then cleared.

I do have to agree that 'Bulldog adhesion promoter' is some really good stuff if used as designed.

Did you use a commercial grade clearcoat with an activator/Hardener or did you use a spray can and how did it come out did the spyder looking cracks disappear?

From what I have seen...the fine cracks in the acrylic are in the acrylic and not the scratch resistant coating applied on top of it....so ...applying clear on top of the acrylic normally will not make the fine cracks disappear.

And using aerosol clear or commercial grade clear does no matter also IF you are wanting to get these fine cracks to disappear.

I used same clear coat I apply to my paint from spray gun. The top came out great. Hardest part was getting all of the old finish off, the stuff was hard as nails. And I agree with what Dub said the fine cracks were not in the protective coating and can still be seen. I did mine because the coating had some chips in it.
