Got hit by an open wheel car last race. As you can see the only real damage is on the door. Its the passenger door and although it does still open and close fine it doesn't have to. No time to replace door (or fix if its even fixable) so was thinking of just taping it up unless someone has a better idea? Not overly worried about how it looks as long as its not flapping in the wind or coming about. If tape is best temporary fix is there a certain tape type to use? Thanks
Put tape on it and let it ride...and YES...this can be repaired. A race car with decals on it...it can be fixed.

Yeah realize it can be but wondering if worth it. Guessing there would be quite a few hours of labor vs finding a used door hopefully lemans blue and swapping it. No window or guts.
What about cleaning up the broken glass before taping it, use a razor? scissors? sand paper? all of the above? thanks
if youre gonna wrap the hole with tape you can insert i piece of aluminum sheet metal and tape it on as well to hold the shape. maybe even screw it on. then put a big ole sticker over it.
yes cut out all the loose stuff. i would probably use a cut off wheel
If you can find a used door in the same color....and the paint matches...go for it. But do not forget about the labor to install all the parts in the door.
If this is a track car...chances are it is going to possible happen again. Which is why I would cover it in tape until the season is over then deal with it. But that is just me. Or if I needed to get the hole filled in due to rules for being able to be on the track. Then I would do much like what was been mentioned by installed a thin plate on the backside and cover it with that sticker that seemed to have been wiped out and cover it with that.
Your photo does not show a lot of the detail of what is really going on at the damaged area....so....we are not seeing what you are seeing in relation to any damage to the inside structure of the door itself.

I don't have a parts in the door so no labor there, well maybe removal.
Basically looks like someone tried drilling a big hole in that corner of the door and stopped. No damage on the other side. Will clean it up and tape it for remainder of the season. Thanks
