Paint requiremen
Im nearing the paint stage, yay, finally!
it's been asked a lot of times probably, but the search function didn't bring me a lot of answers.
Howmuch paint did YOU use to paint your C3 corvette? Im talking about the 'fastback' style, 'bubble' rear glass ones. ( 1979 model year).
Im planning to use a simple direct gloss urethane 2K paint. Yellow over a white primer.
Spraying through a HVLP system, with thinners/hardeners added I know I use +- 3litres to do a classic austin mini.
Will do the door jambs etc too ofc, those are all still silver now.
many thanks!
Can you get your hands on ICI paint there??? Their 2K system can be made into a basecoat or a single stage paint.
I can say that if your car where at my shop I would mix up 3 quarts of the yellow and paint it over a white base and still have paint left over....but that is because I am using NEXA paint which used to be ICI AUTOCOLOR here in the U.S. before PPG bought the rights to sell it and they changed the name if it..

I don't know if I can get ici paint here, will look for it. I know we can get house of.kolor via the UK.
The paint brand I usually use is MIPA don't know if you have any experience with it?
Think they sell standox and dupont too, but not 100% sure
Is that a gallon spray able material? Or unthinned material?
I have about 10 litres of high build + 9 litres of colour in my shopping basket atm. It sounds like I would order way too much paint?
as always,thanks!
When people buy a gallon of paint it is raw paint that has NOT been thinned yet.
I can not say to buy 4 liters or not due to like I also mentioned some colors can cover really fast and you may find that you can have a lot left over. Also it is possible that the color you are shooting is a weak color that does not cover fast.
Generally shooting a solid yellow over white it will cover rather quickly but I can not guarantee that 4 liters will do it. It may...it may not. But I feel it would be fine. This is why I would shoot test panel and see how many coats it takes over your white to get it to the color you want.
