how is a 1972 birdcage attached to the frame. i need to replace my windshield frame and birdcages . i bought repair kit from central corvette, parts are not fitting the upper corners not fitting and central corvette will not help me out i have a chanch to buy a used birdcage assy how does it attach. thanks
The "birdcage " is just bolted to the chassis/frame . There's only 6 bolts to undo , the birdcage to chassis isn't really the big problem area . It's the body fibre glass panels rivetted to the cage and those pieces glued together AROUND the birdcage areas that causes intense problems when the steel rusts away .
What part of your cage is rusted out ,apart from the upper corners of the windscreen surround ?
It's a shame that GM didn't do a better job of corrosion protection on these birdcage components, but I would imagine, in the mindset that was prevalent in the timeframe of the C-2s and C-3s, that nobody expected people to be still driving them when they were 50 years old. Back then, the thought was to build it to last a couple years past the length of the car's warranty.....
