Anyone have any luck buying a quart of Evercoat 870 that's still within a year of manufacture? I'm striking out. Tried our local National Coatings and I had to educate them about shelf life and how to read the date code. Sherwin Williams hasn't sold any locally in 5 years and they checked all stores within 500 miles. I'll try O'Reilly's next but don't hold out much hope.
I'm learning to do fiberglass repair, and repairing some old very poor work on my transmission tunnel. Using Dub's tutorial. He was a huge advocate of VPA.
If it's 6 digits the first 3 are year month (YMM). the last 3 are meaningless to us. So 310_ _ _ would mean 2023 Oct and expires Oct 2024. They changed to 7 digits in late 2023.
If it's 7 digits the first 4 are YYMM and last 3 don't matter. So 2401 would mean 2024 Jan, expires Jan 2025.
I got this from Evercoat customer service.
When I called to understand the date codes, customer service said the VPA expired one year after the date on the bottom of the can. Probably worth another call to see if I get the same answer a second time.
There's also another thread here where someone said he tried to use an expired product and it was a disaster.

Appreciate any advice.
After trying a few diferent sources, i now always order from Summit and when received plenty before expiration date. VPA is getting more expensive all the time along with everything else.
I always store inside to avoid temp extremes. When I first open a can I stir for 3 or 4 min, a workout, to make it is well mixed before use

Thanks for the info. Both Eastwood and Summit are the go-to places. They actually understand the product.
