Default Cam recos please

Already have Vararam, TPIS Long Tube headers, Random Tech hi-flow cats and Borlas on my '03 A4 Coupe with 3.15's (36K miles). Just picked up AFR 205cc Heads. She's a daily driver but I do get to the drag once in a while. Not looking for anything too radical, just a good streetable ride with decent idle and low to mid range SOTP kick. What kind of cam specs should I shop for? Please provide brand, lift, duration, and lobe specs. Thanks!!

Go with Cartek's 2 X cam. Not real radical, good power increase.

Somewhere between 220/220 to 224/224 on a 114lsa. You may also want to look at a 222/226 because LS1 AFR heads seem to produce better results with more exhaust duration.

I'd have to say the tr 224 ona 112lsa. A true and very popular performer. If you want to dial it in precisely
give a cam designer your mods, head specs. and your intent......Then you will get the most out of your mods and not have regrets of getting the wrong cam.

I'm liking mine a lot. Streetable, lots of mid/high power, mild lope, sounds great and makes a lot of power even with stock heads.
specs:
224/228 .581 114lsa

Their are a couple of 224 cams that are really good cams. The Thunder TR 224/224 565/565 and the CC XER 224/224 581/581 are good cams. Back when I had my 224/581 it was on a 114 LSA and I always wished it was on a 112 LSA because it never seemed to have enough lope in my M6 WS6. Whatever you do, I recommend getting the 112 LSA. It has just the right lope.. TSP also has a newer 225/589 grind on a 112 or 114 that is showing great results.

I can't say what is best for you....I bought my 224/224 .581 114 based on most folks saying it can pass a sniffer with a good tune and advice from Forum members and LS1 Tech ... after a tune from TeamZR1 she has very little lope ... stealthy at idle to those without an ear...

My gf's father commented that my car seemed to be idling a little off and suggested that I get it tuned... I told him it had a tune and took for a little 6,200 spin with a back of the seat pin

Very happy with the little cam.....

Hi,
Here is a graph of our G5X-1 cam which is a very mild cam compared to our G5X-2 and 3.

This car , with AFR 205 heads and our headers even passed emissions. that was one of the requirements. It had to pass the sniffer test.

Well it did pass and it still made significant horsepower.

The car was an 02 6 speed with AFR heads, G5X-1 cam and LG headers.

Feel free to call me at 972-429-1963 if you want any more information.

thanks

Depends on what you are looking for for final power and at what RPM. The AFR's will likely give you 30-40 HP alone and as you go higher, your stock clutch will require replacement sooner. I am looking for a strong increase across the RPM range with a peak at 6,200 RPM or slightly lower. Right now, I am researching the Thunder Racing Old Man Cam. It seems to provide the type of street torque increase I am looking for. I don't want a cam that comes on at 3K RPM for street use.
