Default 1/8 mile time question

I have an '02 A4 Convertible and took it to the track here in TX for the first time today. The temp was between 97 and 100 degrees. It is basically stock w/ Borla Stingers, 160 degree thermostat, T/B bypass, K&N with a modified stock box, silicone air bridge and 3.15 gears. My best time was 8.755 @ 82.38 and my highest speed was 83.08. Taking in to account my best reaction time was .010 and averaged about .10, and the high temp, do my numbers sound about right? Thanks.

You forgot to add that there was a head wind. A 8.5 is a high 12, so a 8.7 is a low 13 at about 106 in the worst air of the year. Your car is normal for a A4 C5. My car was slow as hell and still aint too fast with heads/and cam.

this a good "in general " 1/8th to 1/4 converter .... 1/8th X 1.55 = 1/4.
So your time wa approximately a 13.57 1/4 at about 103 to 104mph...

I have the same as you an 02 A4 3.15's, mines a coupe though and bone stock at the time.

My first time at the track was best at 8.7 also. I've heard that's about the same as 13.4-13.5 at the 1/4.

I just installed my vararam and picked up .2 tenths with best at the same track and much hotter conditions at 8.53 best.

I'd say you're dead on the money.

Thanks guys. I was running street pressure on run flats so I had some spinning at launch. I think if I had dropped the pressure and if it weren't 100 degrees I could have knocked my time down just a tad.

Make sure you hold down the active handling for 5 seconds to turn it off.

Well I installed Dynamax LTs, High Flow Cats, X-pipe and replaced my K&N Intake with a Hurricane yesterday. I ran an 8.4 85.04 1/8 lastnight. I didn't know what to expect so I took it easy and launched at 2500. My reaction time was still a bit lower than normal but I still managed those numbers. I think I could hit 8.2 now once I figure out the launch.

Wow!! .3 tenths with full LT's exhaust set up huh? that's pretty good for the 1/8.

I'm going to have to get me some exhaust now for mine.

8.4 X 1.55 = 13.02 (estimated 1/4 et) .... compared to previous 1/8th results of 8.755 X 1.55 = 13.57 ..... you would have shaved .5 seconds off your et for 1/4 at about 107-108mph.

8.2 1/8th would have you running about 12.7 1/4....however you will need a 60ft time around 1.7 to 1.8 (launch) to get the 12.7 number ...

Thanks for calculations. I've been wondering if i could hit the 12's.

8.29 @ 88 very little spin off line, spinning 2 car lengths 1-2 shift (run-craps), and about 6 bounces off the rev limiter between 2-3rd shift.

While in the middle of adjusting my shift points after the run, A track official said: "Nice car... Too bad you can't run it anymore until you get a rollbar." "Can't break an 8.50 in a vert w/o a rollbar."

if you went to kennedale on a sunday night your times were bad because they dont do anything to the track, no VHT or anything. On friday and sat night pro mods run and they leave the track in a mess. and clean it up wed or thurs i believe.

i ran 8.2 @ 87 mph on a non prepped crappy track back in June. if you didnt go to kennedale then never mind.

'04 Z06 with cat back only. i couldnt get the car to hook up at all but still pulled a 1.9 60 foot on khumo MX tires psi at 15. I think the car is capable of 7.9's. the first time i went i was running 8.4's stock with F1 tires, added corsa cat backs and khumos dropped to 8.2.

Remember that 1/8 to 1/4 conversion is just a rough estimate, not an exact guideline.....

Depending on weather temp, humidity and track prep + good launch, you could easily do much better then that conversion will show.

Yep, Kennendale. Impossible to get a good launch.

i might go to denton saturday night, if i get some tires put on tomorrow morning. denton preps their track from what i heard lots of racers are very happy with the track and the times that they get up there.

kennecrap trap

i had a drag radial on my streched 6" CBR929, launched at 7k and held on for the life of me and i spun 300+ feet down the track before i hooked up at kennedale. best time was a 6.8, should have been running a 6.5-6.4, i didnt even bother to spray the 60 shot, i would have been all over the place.

hmm... doesnt sound very off... in an 01 auto targa with just a vararam and stock tires i did 8.49 at 85...i guess the vert takes away from that? that actually equated to a 13.1 at 105.8 with a 1.96 60 ft....

I have a 2001 rag with 3.15 gears up here in toronto, we just had our rain date for covette nationals. I have patriot heads, comp 224/230 cam. Lt kooks headers and corsa exaust. the car ran consistant 118mph @11.96,117.9@11.98 117.9@11.96 with a 1.76 60ft in street trim with Toyo T1R 295/35r18 tires. They said with a slick i probably could have done 11.50's and with a warmer track, these runs were made atearly evening temps and dew was getting on the track making it fairly slick 300ft out. max

That's about right for your conditions. When I first started drag racing my 2000 C5 A4, I ran 8.6-8.8 @ 85-87. One month later, I added a set of drag radials and ran 7.7-7.8 @ 88-90 mph. You need traction.

Marine, just so you know. Your reaction time has nothing to do with your ET, or mph through the traps. You can set for 2 seconds at the green light and you will have the same ET and mph as a perfect RT. You will lose the race buy no effect on ET. Timing begins when you break the start beam.

By the way your times seem about right for your mods and the WX.
