What is everones opinion that has used the VaraRam intake system on their C5s? At a claimed 40hp gain for the $400 price tag it sounds like a great deal!! But as the old saying goes some thing sound better than actually is> Thank you for any input.
Chuck, I'm with you. You need to see actual results from people who baseline their car first then make just one single change (installing vararam) and run their car at the track. I've heard many good things about it but I'm a liitle skeptical that it would yield 40hp. It would certainly be worth the price even if it yielded less than 40hp because it is certainly the lowest cost/hp mod you could do. My only hangup is all the negative comments on the installation and the fit. If it does as advertised, then I guess people will put up with it.

The 40HP is not on a dyno. It is more at speeds of 65mph+, although I was surprised to feel the difference even at speeds lower then 30mph....
I have one, took it to an 1/8 mile track in very hot weather and did see .2 tenths difference just in the 1/8. I am very impressed with this intake.
Just wait till it gets cold out and those #'s will increase even better.
With only one pass since the Vararam install I went from a 13.2 down to a 12.9 with a 3.3 mph increase. With a couple more passes under my belt, I might better that too.
My gains equate to @ 30+ hp. Definately worth it to me. I'm a believer!
03 coupe gained 3 mph and 3 tenths qtr mile ET. My car ran a 12.71 109 mph with a hypertech, vararam, and magnaflow catback. The mods were all done separately so I have a pretty good idea of gains.
Doesn't the 2B version take away from the ram-air effect though b/c of the new modification to try to help prevent hydrolock?
Nope.
I don't know what improvements they made on it from previous but it only comes with one tiny whole in the bottom, heck I drilled out 3 more on each just incase, and have still seen my .2 tenths better in the 1/8.
Time in my sig with only a Vararam and DRs. This should indicate that the Vararam does what is claimed. If you look at the thread in the Z06 section the quickest top 30 with CAI/DR, I'll bet 80/90% are running the Vararam, check it out.

I like mine. Sure it's plastic, but as long as it works ^& holds up, who cares....I've trapped close to 120 w/ it while others trapped 114-116 w/o it.
See sig for results.

whats the maintenance like on this thing? How difficult to clean it and how often?
PS-Ron, I watched the video and in the video it looks like it displays a 114 trap speed? So your only mod is a vararam?? BTW, what size chrome Z06's are they? Do you run with those at the track or have different wheels/tires for the track?

I cleaned it quite often. Every couple of months. I did not have the cleaning kit, so I used TSP then dishwashing soap, then rinse and dry. Lightly oil it after it is dry, then reinstall. Very easy to get to the filter, you can clean it in under ten minutes. I usually just lay it on the warm engine and it dried fairly quickly.
