402ci Stroker - Final Results

Here is the link to the preliminary results. The transmission issue that caused us to abort the run have been resolved, and the crankcase evacuation pump is now installed.

The final numbers were 486 and 472. I picked the car up today, and had ample opportunity on the way home to test it out under a variety of driving conditions - acceleration (from a stop and roll), low speed behavior, open highway, and stop & go traffic. It is absolutely flawless and a blast to drive! The torque curve (below) speaks for itself, and the motor pulls strong everywhere.

These are certainly not the biggest numbers to ever come out of A&A, but it meets my goals and will be a lot of fun on the street (and track... once I get better rubber). I highly recommend this build-up for anyone wanting C6 Z06 beating n/a power.

Very nice power and torque, congratulations!
Must be very strong with torque like that in a typical daily-drive situation, and up top, too.
I'm jealous!

I can attest to the very good drivability and the very impressive power.

Bob stoped by my house on the way back from A&A Corvette.....I got a ride.....and it was awsome at part throttle !!!

Good luck .... MR. LUCKY

Nice numbers, but I think you have more power depending on the cam. The dynosheet shows you are going upwards until you hit 5700rpm and then it appears to be float. Are you running aftermarket rocker arms? I had to go back to stock rockers because my setup did something similar around 6krpm. I gained almost 30rwhp. BUT!!! If you have a tight LSA or a cam below 240/240 .600/.600 then there is nothing wrong with what I see on the dynosheet.

I missed the details of the buildup could you list what heads, did you use the FAST 90 setup, what headers and exhaust, obvioulsy you have to have cats in CA etc---I am considering a 402 short block to replace the oil burning 436 I have now, think it may make more since then to resleave or rebuild the 436 short block--I have a larger cam, some pretty good heads and headers etc I could bolt on to the 402---what CR did you end up with--thanks bill

OK, let's see...
* ported AFR 205s w/ HS roller rockers (stock ratio)
* FAST 90 & LS2 90mm TB
* coated LGs w/ hi-flow cats & Corsa Touring
* c/r = ~11:1

I'm sure it must be a painful decision to consider scrapping your 436 and going to a 402 (though the aluminum block is nice, and I like the results). Depending upon what's wrong with it, maybe you could do a ring job and add an A&A evac pump (which I also have) to resolve the oil burning issue? Then you could pocket the $$ difference and mod further!

This is an ARE block from the time that wade stevens was running nick's shop--it makes great power and I will probably pull it apart first to see if any piston slap has damaged the sleaves, then I will have to assess how much to resleave the block I am sure at least 3K--diff rods, pistons and rings and the gaskets and seals to put it together I am sure at least another 3K then labor that would surely be in the 3K range, if the sleaves are ok then I would dump the 6.2 rods he put in for 6.125s a longer skirted piston with better wrist pin placement and better rings for the street and it would be ok--I have also considered the 402 with about a 9.5 to 1 and running 10lbs of boost but that is somewhat insane I am convinced our cars with the low profile tires can handle maybe 450rwhp and get it to the ground pretty well on the street, my blower motor and the stroker are in the 550rwhp range and it is pretty much useless power I would not know what its like to put the loud pedal all the way down in most any gear--

Have you seen the new heads Andy was posting about they are pretty interesting--congrads on a great street setup with a reasonable cam and CR--I would think 11.3 CR and a bigger cam and you could easily push the 402 over the 500 mark in each category--thanks for the info

Sounds like the evac pump was a needed fix. Not to in any way dismiss great results but what caused the addition of the pump?

The pump doesn't actually "fix" anything. Its function is to completely replace the PCV system, and prevent oil ingestion. In my case, I specified its inclusion as part of my build. It takes about 1hp to run the pump, but it gives back about 10hp.
