Default Modding dosent seem worth it anymore....

Im probaly gonna get flamed for being a cry baby but here goes....

When the C6 Z06 first got it's numbers posted in magazines of it running mid to high 11's I thought it was awesome but didnt care to much...

But in the past few weeks Ive read of 4 different tracks with real owners driving them.

The results were all 11.6-11.9 at 123-126.8 mph...

When I saw these actual owner numbers somthing happened to me..

First I was awe struck to know that a PRODUCTION CORVETTE could really run these numbers.

Secondly I realized just how slow my 108 mph really is....

So I had so many plans for my car but honestly I just dont know if it's worth it.

I figuered a set of non catted LG headers would have me trappin 110 mph...

AFR 205 heads would have me trappin 113 mph...

3000 stall and 3.73 gears (REPLACING THE 2.73 GEARS THAT DO NONTHING FOR MY CAM) taking advantage of my 224/224 cam would get me in the 117-120 range.

It will be a solid 6 grand or more to have these mods...

And Ill still be trapping lower than the C6Z06.

Im around 370 rwhp right now and with the mods I expect to be around 420 rwhp...

The C6Z is dynoing 450 rwhp on average bone stock...

The only way I can actualy match it in performance is with nitros or a blower/Turbo...

But then there will be serious reliability issues unless I build the trannie to handle 500 rwhp. MORE $$$$$$

I like the C5 desighn better than the C6.....And Id also rather have the last year of the C5 model (2004) than the first year of the C6 model....

But man Im just not that motivated to go spend 1000's of dollars on my ride when ...

I KNOW 18 MONTHS FROM NOW ILL BE ABLE TO PICK UP A USED 2006 C6 ZO6 FOR AROUND 55,000$ WITH LESS THAN 20,000 MILES ON IT.

I PAID 51,000 FOR MY C5 IN MAR 04...SO 55,000 WOULD BE A GREAT DEAL FOR A CAR THAT TRAPS 123-127 MPH.....

Am I all alone here????

How many daily driven C5's do we have on this site that trapp 123-127 mph NA????

127 mph is crazy fast......That would be quick enough to take most of the trailored in cars mph wise.

buy a 97-99 c5 w/ some miles on it for 15k, LT's,afr or sim. heads,g5x3 cam,M6,4.10's and you will be running 11.70's w/ a decent drag radial
total cost=about $20k if you can turn a wrench

I bought an '00 Vert w/ 7,800 miles 2 years ago for $35K. Put less than $15K into supercharger, headers, 3.73 rear end, brace.....

I now have 480 RWHP. That's more than the new Z06. My top goes down, and I've spent over $15K less.

Get a hold of yourself.

also the bottom end is bone stock, planning on making it a 395 stroker with a pro charger, all work is done by ttp and so will the future mods

Dr Ron....You are well recognized on this forum and I respect your opinion on this matter...

But rwhp is only half of it.

Yes 370 rwhp is enough for a 2004 Z06 to get close to 119 mph in the 1/4 mile.

But a a4 2.73 coupe is a totaly different story.

I trapped 101-103 mph bone stock with 299 rwhp..

Now with 370 rwhp I only trap 107-109 mph....

My a4 WILL require a gear change and higher stall to get what a 3.42 mn6 would out of 370 rwhp.

That in it's self is a considerable amount of money.

Mwagne16.....In my post I stated NA cars....Meaning no FI..

Ive personaly seen a bone stock 2001 Z06 dyno 340 rwhp and then on the same dyno jet with his only mod being a 8 pound AandA procharger He dynoed 535 rwhp SAE corrected.

I know this could be EASILY achieved with a procharger...

How ever Ive already owned a supercharged 98 camaro and being blown for me was a complete night mare.

Sure my ET went down by 1.2 seconds, but it was not worth all the pain of air/fuel/slippidge/broke belts/busted bearings/strain on other accessories from over tightening/DRAMA

I like my NA engine much better.

FWIW, there will always be something better/faster. Time marches on and along with it so does technology. C-5s eclipsed the C-4s, the C-4s eclipsed the C-3s and so on.

The new Z06 should be the amazing awesome machine that it is and I applaud GM for "Gettin' er done". I expect the same performance jump when the C-7 Corvette comes out too. So after a few short years even the C6-Z will be yesterdays performance news. Corvette SS anyone?!

Now I absolutely love the new Z and once the initial frenzy is over I will own one too. However, I also love my C-5 Z as much if not more than the new Z because at the end of the day...it is mine. Everytime I look at it or drive it I fall in love with it again. Even in it's stock form it was more car than I could handle and I have never been able to make maximum use of the power it had/has.

Don't get so wrapped up in the numbers, determine what is acceptable performance for you and be content when you reach it. There will always be a faster car and you'll drive yourself nuts trying to keep up the "new car" Jones.

Roush Raven....That was a very good post and I understand what you mean....

But 127 mph is a number that not many cars in the world can obtain...

The only preduction cars that come to mind that can match these nubers are the Ford GT...Porshe...And ENZO...

11.6 at 127 mph will be a outstanding number even 3 years from now....

Maybe if I had an mn6 I would think differently about it...

Or especialy a C5Z06...Those can trap 117 bone stock and are only 10 mph away...

My car was 24 mph away from 127 mph bone stock...Thats a HUGE gap to make up....

My DA was 2,000 ft when I ran 103 mph so Ill be nice and say my car was capable of 105 mph bone stock...

STILL A SOLID 22 MPH UNDER...

I would think that right now if I put on an 8 pound supercharger Id gain roughly 10-15 mph...

Id still only be at 118-123 mph....

And that would cost me 6 grand...

Not to mention that 550 rwhp on the stock bottom and drive train wouldnt last very long....

So thered be another couple of grand building everything to handle that kind of power...

It just seems like so much money to get comparable performance.....When some one else can just go buy one and have the same performance Id have...

But have no drivability issues and still have the warranty.

THE ONLY REASON I CAN THANK OF KEEPING THE C5 AND CONTINUING TO MOD IT IS BECAUSE IT WILL BE A SLEEPER..

Most people thank...low 13's...My GTO or Fbody or chargerSRT-8 or STI or what ever they have thats reasonably quick has a chance...

They dont know that youve got an 11 second C5....

With the C6Z06 EVERYBODY KNOWS THAT THERES A 99.9 % CHANCE THERE GONNA GET SMOKED...

So there only racing you to see you take off. theres no surprise in it.

Conneticut a few post back said that it's easy to get a C5 into the 11's.

I totaly agree....AFR heads..LG headers.....mid to strong cam and some slicks/stick drag radials...Will put most C5's into the 11's..

But they wont be running 127 mph.

A C5Z06...Maybe...

But The a4 wont hit 127 mph with just these mods.

I care much more about mph than ET..

The threads of real drivers with C6Z06's at the track had them running 11.6-11.9 at 123-127 mph of 2.0-2.1 60 fts.....

With slicks these will be 10 second cars straight from the factory....

Just a 1.8 60 ft would put the 11.6 down to a 11.2-11.3

I KNOW IM JUST SUCKING THE C6Z06'S TAIL PIPE RIGHT NOW.....BUT 127 MPH JUST KEEPS FLASHING IN MY HEAD.....

Hopefully soon Ill get that number out of my head and get back to my plans for my C5......

A heads/Cam c5 should trap 127+ in good air with tires at a track near sea level.

You'll need a larger displacement motor, supercharger, or spray to trap 127 in a A4. Unless you're street racing(top end), what does trap speed matter anyway, I thought ET was more of a bragging right?

There will always be a car faster than yours no matter what car you have. You could have a new Z06 and then somebody comes along with a Z06 FI and blows you away. Then you go to FI and someone comes along with FI and Nitrous - and so on and so on. The chase will never end until everyone is broke with a broken car.

I'm not sure what the moral is here but.....

One thing you have to look at.. The new Z06 (06) runs a M6 trans, with a 3.42 rear. Your at a 2.73 rear, + an A4 with what a stock converter.. Yes it will take a lot of $$$$ to get where the New Z06 is now.
Question do you spend it or not... From where you are now and where you want to be, I would wait, and get a used one if that happens. But from some of the prices that they are selling for I don't think you going to see 55k any time soon.. maybe 2 or 3 years.

Just a thought...

Don't sweat it man. If GM is still in business by the time we can afford the 06 Z it will have even more power and you'll be saying the same thing (Should I get the 06 or or the latest and greatest Z with 600bhp?) It never ends.
BTW, I wonder if GM will jack up the hp by 50 or so next year? Boy that would really pi$$ me off as an 06 owner.

I personaly think that the new Z is going to be about the end of this HP thing for awhile. Big Brother is going to step in if this keeps up. Then again the C6Z will be somewhat a limited production item which will keep the price high. Currenty they are selling for $5000+ over sticker and the wait is long. Just my 2 cents

Just buy an old used up C5 for super cheap and drop a new drivetrain in it along with a Supercharged 427 built engine.
You should be smoking that new little Z06 all day long with some 335's on the rear.
