Default track results - vararam

went to the track last night w/ my new vararam intake. definately some gains. with my halltech stinger ssm, i was trapping 109-110. with the vararam and no filter, i was trapping 112-114mph. with the vararam filter, i was trapping 108-110 (same as w/ the halltech stinger ssm).
the foam filter that came with vararam is crappy, so i just took it out and noticed a big increase with out it at the track.
my car is an '02 6spd z51 coupe

Am I gonna start another "who makes the best intake" brawl?
Maybe.
VR is simply the best performer. period. To much personal experience with too many corvettes to say otherwise.

BTW, good traps

So with a filter the Vararam gave you no more MPH than the Halltech?

THAT I believe.

Seeing trap speed is nice, but what most people want to see is E.T's. What did you run?

Trap speed is a better indicator of power, which is what he was shooting for.

Exactly right, but how did it translate into times at the track. A lot of spinning off the launch can also increase your trap speed.

I was running 104.5 to 105.8 in the 1/4 mile with a best of 106.2 mph using the Zip tie mod....

Bought the Vararam expecting miricles and ran 105.2-106.5...Just a slight improvment over the Zip tie mod ( wich in it's self was a .5 to 1 mph improvement over the stock intake...

So id say the Vararam was a 1-1.5 mph improvment over stock..

THEN ONE NIGHT I DECIDED WHAT THE HECK AND TOOK THE FILTER OUT.....

the first 2-3 runs I was running 104-105 mph Very disapointing..(basicly about the same as the bone stock intake)

Then around run number 4 or 5 I hit a 106 ( OK not to bad...But Ive done this before with the Vararam with the filter in)

Then around 11pm everybody started leaving and i was able to run a solid 3-5 runs back to back...

My last 3 runs were in the 107-108.5 range...

A SOLID 3 MPH BETTER THAN THE STOCK INTAKE

The problem is...Unless you always ride around with the filter out..It takes the car to long to learn what the hecks going on.

ALSO..I replaced the heads and cam and never threw any codes..
I put the Vararam on and within the first 2 weeks threw 3-4 different codes...

I HONESTLY BELEAVE THAT TWO GET THE MOST OUT OF THE VARARAM YOU'D HAVE TO TUNE YOUR CAR FOR THEADDED AIRFLOW...BUT HOW CAN YOU GENERATE THE AIRFLOW ON ADYNO??? GOTTA GO LAPTOP AND HP TUNERS.

You don't need a tune, just need to install it correctly and do an idle relearn.

With my vararam and all else bone stock, I gained .2 tenths and 1mph in the 1/8 . Never been to the 1/4 yet, sorry.

The stock Vararam filter is restrictive, we saw considerable loss on the dyno with the filter in, and only run the car without a filter if it has a Vararam in place.

Also, before quantifying the "gains" you need to ensure weather conditions were similar and ensure that the gains were not a result of cooler outside air, and a more favorable D.A.

Yea Jrod I agree with youy on that 90% of the time. But here in Hawaii it's ALWAYS around 1500 ft DA.....A little more or a little less but nonthing that would make a big differance like tracks in the mainland were seasonal differances can make the DA change by 1000-2000 ft.

Actually the weather was worse and I did better with the vararam.
My car, Black 02 Coupe, A4 with G-92 3.15 gears.

Stock I ran 8.7x @ 83mph 1/8 with near 60 degrees and don't know humidity sorry.

Vararam only (WITH FILTER), I ran 8.53 @ 84mph 1/8 with over 90 degrees of TX heat and don't know humidity that night either.

Sorry, I just never pay attention to humidity, just the temps.

Many of you are saying the stock vram filter is restrictive. I just want to verify, you guys are talking about the original foam one and not the new ones, right?

Ok I have a question for you guys... What is the color of the new filter? It's not foam, it's not K&N at least I don't think so because it's not pink or red.. so which one is best??
