Well its quite a sagga - My 427 C5R - F-1R Procharger motor underwent some recent changes at FLP. Due to boost getting into the tranny on Labor Day I needed some tranny work. While the car was apart,Dan Bills installed a 90MM FAST Intake, LS2 TB, and 1 7/8" Kooks Header system, Billet & Polly Motor Mounts, and I installed a Jegs screw kit on my ET Streets (12.5 X 28 X 16). The car dynoed about 760RWHP. Also during the tranny work Dan Bills found that my "Poly" Driveshaft couplers from Lamar had failed (too much horse power), so my driveshaft had been "indexing as much as 4" ON EACH LAUNCH ALL YEAR. After much research Doug at ECS made a driveshaft with U-Joints for my C5 if you can believe that. The driveshaft is a WORK OF ART!!! It is a shame to hide it in a torque tube! NOW FOR THE REAL STORY - The day after picking up my car I headed to the drag strip to see if it would run mid 9's over 150MPH (It had been running high 9's at 147MPH in the hot weather). LAST DAY OF THE SEASON, 47 Deg., 600 DA, SUN ON THE TRACK, MONSTER BURNOUT, FIRST RUN 12.5 lbs of air (Did not want to dead hook on the first run), LAUNCHING AT 1100 RPM (Basically idle) - GREAT LAUNCH! WHEELS CAME UP 6" ACCORDING TO THE GUYS WATCHING (I left my camera at FLP after filming the dyno session) FELT BETTER THAN ANY OF THE PREVIOUS 400 LAUNCHES WITH THIS CAR - 1ST GEAR WINDING OUT, EFILIVE BLACK BOX RECORDING EVERYTHING, 6350 RPM BANG - HIT THE REV LIMITER AT 7500 THEN NOTHING, - CAR COASTS TO THE WALL IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TRACK, IT DIDN'T EVEN GET TO SECOND GEAR!
Tranny mainshaft broke at an oil journal, not just broke but twisted my cryo'd & hardened main shaft along a 3" area - BUT MY DTE TRANNY/REAREND BRACKETS HELD THE CASES TOGETHER SO THE ONLY DAMAGE WAS TO THE SHAFT!!
Thanks Phil at DTE (DTE Rear End Held up great), Thanks Doug at ECS (Driveshaft held up great), Thanks Roger Vinci (CNC'd 1/4" drive plate held up great), AND A SPECIAL THANKS TO DAN BILLS FOR ALL THE HORSEPOWER THAT CAUSES ALL THIS TROUBLE!

Chuck Johnson the owner of Finish Line Transmissions is cooking up a speacial "Billet - cryoed - Hardened" Main shaft for my tranny so I am very optimistic about hitting the track in April. My target for 2006 is to run consistant mid 9's around 150 MPH, and do Cruise Nights 4X a week during the summer because after all my C5 is a STREET CAR! HOWEVER, I know the drill - The weakest link will break until you have matched your "stuff" to the horsepower, then you can race for a while with some confidance. If it wasn't for the guys I mentioned we would all be running in the 11's or 12's and/or be BROKE ALL THE TIME!
We're glad we could play a part and thanks again for your business. As a suggestion~ Perhaps you could send your diff back in here for freshening/magnafluxing to make sure it's ok, so you'll have a fresh diff for next year's racing season.
Phil - I put about 120 runs on your Rear End in 2005 and Funny you should mention that! I spoke with Dan Bills on Thurs. and it was decided that we would do that exact thing. FLP will be sending you my Dif. next week to "go through" for next season!
Have a good Holiday

And a great looking car to boot!!! Strong runner you've got on your hands..... Question, did you leave the a/c in her for those cruising nights? Talk about a potent street car!!
Mike - I did a lot of testing and found that at 115 MPH the air dams up on the front of the stock body C5 and the blower causes air intake temps start to go through the ceiling! That in turn causes power loss. I pulled out the AC radiator and first the operating temps came down 10 deg, then the intake air temps did not start to rise until about 130 MPH. So I took out the AC Compressor to save weight and I bought a tiger shark front end which is going on over the winter, it will hopefully allow MORE AIR into my ECS aftercooler so my intake air temps become stable all the way up to 150+ in the 1/4 mile! The C5-R block makes it tough to keep coolant below 220 deg. driving around, but with these changes I run at 195 - 200 which is a lot better than it was. As for the AC well I guess I'll just have to sacrifice!

Well, there's trade-offs with everything in life. Having a 9 second street car without A/C wouldn't be a "deal breaker" for me either.
I'd be curious to know how you make out with the Tigershark nose next year, I had thoughts about installing it too. Keep us posted.
Enjoy!
Hey JR, let me know what you think of the new front end, i love mine, i thinks it helps but i also have the slotted hood to really get the air going though the motor area, i did run 11.5.11 at 121.47 with a 1.802 60ft on the 20' street tires i have, on 11-4-05 at bryon, got to get better tires, did you get the front end from the place i told you about at FLP? Anyway let me know what you think about it, Matt.
Yes, I contacted them right away and they gave me a great price. Plus, I'm not using the front lower piece. I think it should look great and do the trick with air also! My hood is the motor city mold heat extraction hood so I'm thinking that I will get really good air movement through the engine compartment!

Hey JR, glad to hear they took care of you, with the hood you should see some improvements with temps, and it will look bad a@@ to boot. Matt.
REDGAR - If I keep gettin "stuff" from ECS I will probably have to try it out with you East Coast "Big Boys"! All kidding aside, I was seriously thinking of going to SC to run with you guys until I broke in November. I will not get any testing done before your Feb. outing, and trailering 14 hours each way only to find out I got a "problem" seems to be a stretch! But Kick Some A** in Feb.
