Well I have never tried a 112 LSA in my car, in part because I have often been advised that the smaller LSA causes the idle to suffer. Unlike us the M6 guys don't have to pull oil through a converter or drive a trans fluid pump at idle. Normally an LSA of 112 is used in an M6 car since they can support a faster idle than we can. I knew a guy that tried one in an A4 and he hated it.

I currently idle at around 900 or 1000 RPM but I have an SS3600 converter and it's fairly loose on the bottom end. However if I had a tighter converter, like say a 2800 stall, the car would try to take off at idle and would also jump when placed in gear. On the other end when I lifted the throttle at city speeds the car would want to run at 25MPH or so.

The looser SS3600 makes the car comfortable to drive at those higher idle speeds. However if you like a tight feel at the throttle on the street you would not be likely to enjoy driving my car with the SS3600 in it. Its all a matter of balancing the various compromises against your preferences.

I have learned that when you have an automatic you have to balance cam selection against drivability (you define that) and your cam choice.

The cam I had in my 346 was right on the sweet spot. It worked very well with the AFR 205 heads, produced lots of torque and HP, and idled at just 765 RPM. I don't see how you could find a cam that fits all of the compromises any better. (can you tell I liked that cam? )

The cam I installed is actually designed for an automatic. The peak power is at 5,800 RPM. It is a Vinci 056 with 216/224 .551/.551 and a 115 LSA. There is 5* of advance ground in to push the power back down into the lower RPM range. It idles good, with a little bit of chop. The power is great and it peaks right where I wanted because I didn't want to raise my rev limiter. I also run this cam with 1.8 rockers (Crane) for a total lift of .583 and am getting 370 rwhp at 5,800 RPM. Some of the cams you are looking at may develop their peak power in a higher RPM, so make sure you look at all the aspects of the cam you select. I am running this cam in an MN6 car.
