from a roll you'll walk him,i walked one with bolt ons and i was driving my previous 13.9 weak 4.6 mustang gt with 4.10 gears and headers so a vette should kill it,all i did was get the jump on him everytime and it was over for him, remember never go on the third beep and don't street race

I've raced my buddy's 02 Z06 (LG long tubes, tune), both on the track and on the street in my Lightning (bolt on only), and the only time I lost was from a 60 mph roll. Won all the rest. L's can run, watch out, don't be overconfident.

with some light mods and dr's those trucks are hell from a dig.. they hit an aerodynamic wall at 125ish.. so if its a closed course.. you will start to walk away going into 4th good luck have fun... try not to run any kids over.

It's still a truck, and your in a Vette. Dont give any respect til its earned. I just bought my 01 and haven't raced it yet but I know for a fact they dont touch my 88, but with that goes a big thanks to the TPI SB king, Mr. John Lingenfelter R.I.P.

I raced a stock lightning two passes in the 1/4 a few weeks ago at Fayetteville Motor Sports park. Fast for a truck, but not even close to the Vette.

On our first race I spun bad on the launch (2.2 60 ft.) and in 2nd gear we we're side by side. I looked at him, he looked at me, and I grinned from ear to ear , cause it was all over then. The Vette just walked away.

Next pass I had a good launch and probably had him by 5 or 6 cars in the 1/4. He was running 13.80's pretty consistently.

His 13.8 sounds box stock. Pretty rare these days, most are modded. They respond to a few simple mods VERY WELL. That one you raced is only $1000 of boltons away from a high 12 sec pass. I drag race both my toys, my bolton Lightning is quicker than my heads/cam Vette.

Hard to believe your vette is slower.........if you look at your power to weight ratios your vette should still beat it........if I remember my Lighting was close to 5000lbs..versus 3200 for the vette.....interesting

It's all in the launch. I'm too much a wuss to launch really hard and risk breaking the rear end/half shafts. With someone else driving (who wouldn't have to pay for repairs) I'm sure the Vette would be quicker.

Still, the results be what they be.

Are you sure about those times? If so he would be the 2nd fastest GenI truck in the country and the fastest GenII truck by over 1 second (9.503 fastest 1/4 to date by JohnnyLightning owner of JLP). I've owned to GenII trucks, the last was highly modded running 10.8's in the 1/4. The L's are very quick off the line until they become well modded, at that point they are traction limited. As has already been stated, they don't run too well above 60. My truck would barely pull a friends 02 Z with intake/exhaust on the freeway (and I was pushing 630+ rwhp).

I ran one at the track...he was on DR's and me on the streeters. I eased into the launch since it was Dad's car and I didn't want to break anything. Ate me up out of the hole but I was pulling hard by the end of the quarter. A little better launch (2.2 sixty on this run) and I'd had him at the end.

Mods:
-C5...Magnaflow exhaust (stock headers), Hurst STS.
-Lightning...Ported blower, 90mm MAS, Volant Air, Magnaflow Cat Back, Xcalibrator2 w/ L&S Custom Tune.

......I hesitate as well and do not run drag slicks for the same reason. These cars are best suited for road courses.

Vettes and street tires don't mix at all at the track for most.
Get a set of MT ET radials on some 17 x 9.5's and try again!
You don't have to pound the snot out of your ride to get a respectable 60'
You won't get a 1.5 or 1.6, but you could easily get a 1.8 or 1.9.
Had you gotten that kind of 60' on that run, you'd have run a 12.9 or better and smoked his azzz.
