Im going to a dyno this Sat and going to see what she has to the ground. My question is what gear should I be in? I heard 4th. But want to make sure. Thanks for the help!
(1) Wear stock rear wheels/tires with the pressure at 30 psi cold
(2) When you start the pull make sure your coolant temp is 185-194. Higher than that and your PCM will pull power.
(3) Once you arrive at the facility cool the car down. If its hot when you dyno, hot cats will cause the Air/Fuel ratio quite rich as fuel is dumped to cool the cat. After the car is cool, then manage the coolant temp to the target in (3).
(4) Ensure the dyno operator gives you the graphs in SAE and with smoothing turned on.
(5) Ask the operator for the Excel version of the dyno graphs too; this produces rpm/rwhp/rwtq values in numerical form, which are handy for doing shift point conversions.
SAE and STD are correction factors that are applied to the measured results. STD typically results in higher numbers. This page explains it pretty well.
