I was at Ubly two weeks ago. I am running the MT street radials also but in the 275/40 /17 size.( couldn't wait for the 305/35/18 size). I was running them at 15psi hot and had no problems at all going through the traps at 121 mph. I noticed from your other post that you were in the right lane. All my runs were in the left lane. I made one run in the right lane and the traction was bad. Did you try the left lane? Still some impressive times though.
On Friday I was running the Hossier 275 40 17 and was fighting to hook up - not a well preped track - normally these small Hossier DR's hook up and run straight and true thru the traps at over 132 mph.
My other set of DR'S are BFG 315 30 18 and sometimes hook to good (breakage) so I'm running the smaller tire for now. The bigger BFG DR's are a bit wild up on the big end - it's somewhat like skating.
wondering if u have 2 much air and have more contact in middle making it dance around.
I ran 16 to 18 psi in mine (275/40/17) at the track and not much more than that on the street. Keep in mind with a manual trans that these hook so good you will break parts if you are not careful. I switched to ET Streets.
BFG DR 295 18 on stock rims, handles like crap with the wrong air pressure in them. I tried 30 cold, very bad. I tried 20 cold, much better. Then I tried 40 for a 100 mile road trip, Made it about 10 miles and dropped them to 24 hot, still not good. Finally dropped all the way down to 20 hot, and they feel pretty stable, soft, but stable. At least they're not scary in the curves, just feels like they're gonna roll off the rims.
What pisses me off about this is no information was supplied with these tires warning me of the handling characteristics and no suggested inflation pressure other than the max. inflation of 44psi on the side walls. I almost lost it the first time out because of this. I decelerated upon turn in and unbalanced the car which normally is no big deal on this particular turn(big flat 100mph sweeper), but this thing crossed two lanes before I could get a handle on it. Like I said though, with less than 20psi in them they felt OK, not great, but OK. At least I think I could make an evasive maneuver if I had to.
HOWEVER...
In a straight line they are very impressive!!
You're running 305/30's on the stock 18" X 9.5" C5 wheels?
How much of the sidewall is past the rim?
When you do a burnout did you happen to see if the contact patch is good?
If it's not to much trouble I'd appreciate seeing a pic showing the sidewall fit.
I've thought I wouldn't be able tp get the 18" M/T's because of the size restriction.
From what I can se in your pic's they look ok, but I'd like to be sure.
Thanks!
