Default 01 Z06 - First Modification?

Just picked up an all stock 01 Z06. What is the first most logical bolt on mod to put on? I think I should keep the stock cat back. But maybe not?

Are headers extremely difficult to install on these cars?

Does anybody know any shops that install performance parts and tune these cars anywhere near Maine? Thanks.

Long tube headers, air intake, shifter, tune. Stock mufflers are awesome.

I'm kinda in the same boat that you're in.

All I have is a vararam intake. Not really sure what to go with next.

Haven't been able to get under this car...if you replace the headers do you lose your cats? Had an ORY in my Camaro and I don't think I want to do that again; rather just keep the cats.

Also, worth it to get a tune with just an intake and headers?

You do not have to lose the cats. You can run the stockers or high flow, it's up to you. You can get X-pipes with high flow cats. You may need to have some welding done to fit the stock cats onto an X-pipe.

I would highly recommend getting a tune after installing an intake and headers. This combo, flowing much more air, can get your AFR out of wack. The computer can adjust somewhat, but with a tune you will have the AFR and HP optimized

You can probably do the intake, headers, and tune for around $1500 if you buy used parts from the "Parts for Sale" section.......

Good luck and be careful of the addiction!!!

The stock pipes are very good and flow a lot of air. I have an X pipe with hi flow cats from Kooks (1 3/4") that bolts up between your stock titanium exhaust pipes and new long tube headers if you want to buy it from me. You may have to do Kooks headers for proper fitment, but I believe there are other brands that will work.
I'm running Kooks on my car and am quite happy with them and make great power for the $.

Probably going to wait until next spring - just bought the car so I need to be a good boy for a bit.

What I'm hearing here is probably the cleanest way to do it is to grab some LT headers and an X-pipe with cats and mate them to the stock titanium catback. How much of a pain in the *** is a header install? I'm not a very good mechanic.

What I think you should do is find a Good Dyno shop in your area get a Dyno of your car dont buy a thing sit down for awhile and talk with your tuner. The problem most of us make we start buying all this stuff and find out we spent money on stuff that doesn't fit our build just look at some mods you can do to your stock air box to increase air flow. You may want to get a Vararam or Calloway , K/N Who knows but the best thing to do is get a plan keep it street legal so you can enjoy the heck out of it.

That's probably a good idea. Unfortunately I think the nearest tuners are in Massachusetts. The benefits of living in Maine!
