Hi I am looking into buying some new rockers But I am not very Knowlegeable in this area what would anyone recomend some? I have a 2002 Z06 with full Exhaust, cold air, FAST 92mm intake and Throttle body, and tuned with LS1 edit on the Dyno it running 393 rwhp. Still have stock head and cam, just looking for a little more lift with a rocker and how much hp could I expect??
The lift on the stock 02 ZO6 cam wont allow you run higher ratio rockers without changing the springs. Stock lift is .551 changing to a 1.8 or a 1.85 wil result in a .583 for the 1.8s or .599 for the 1.85s. Both of these exceed the ABSOLUTE MAX lift capabilities of the stock LS6 springs which is .570. However I did swap my stock rockers for 1.8 HARLAND SHARPS on my LS2 and noticed a considerable difference I'd say somewhere in the 10-15 RWHP range. How ever I noticed valve float right at 6000RPMs due to the heavier weight at the tip. Went back to stock and felt a big loss all the way accross the RPM range especially off idle,so I switched to the 1.8 LS7 exhaust rockers and got my power back with no FLOAT. Note: 01 LS6 and LS2 lift is only .525 so this addition brings the lift ( at .555) back in line with your stock 02 LS6 so the gains might not be as dramatic on an 02 and up. If you were to do it you would need at least a COMP 918 spring, the LS7 Exhaust rockers fit our cars and are much cheaper and lighter at the tip then most aftermarket rockers. Mine cost about $167.00 for 16.For reference my LS2 dynoed 387hp 384tq with JBA shorties, CAI , Pulley, Offroad Pipes,Borla XR1s, Ported LS2 intake and TB, and 1.8 LS7 rockers on a stingy dyno( would be mid 390s anywhere else). Not bad with shorties when most people w/LTs were getting the same or less numbers with those mods, since you already have a FAST I would expect you to get over the 400rwhp mark pretty easily with no loss of drivability and the stealthy look of a stock rocker. Most people would say for the $ do a cam. I would say its not a bad mod for a decent gain with out tearing into the motor. Plus the cost of LS7s is way less $170 + $180 for springs and free labor vs. $400-$800 plus springs for aftermarket or the money save on a cam / labor+ the tune that is neccesary.Hope this helps.
