Can someone verify for me that a 17x8.5 wheel will fit the rear (clear the rotor and caliper)?
I want to put M/T slicks on, but they don't make them that fit the Corvette. The closest thing is their ET Street (bias ply, not radial). It's like a slick but with a few circumferencial grooves. The M/T tech recommends the 8.5" rather than 9.5" wheel because it will allow more side wall action (wrinkle wall construction). The M/T ET Street 3743 is the only 17" one in this series. I want to stick with my chrome C5 Z06 style, so I'm limited to 17x8.5 or 17x9.5.
M/T makes ET Street RADIALs in 18" that will fit, but the M/T tech claims the bias ply will hook much better than any radial.
Just don't want to buy the tires and wheels (about $800 worth) and then find out that the wheels won't clear the rotor/caliper.
Any assistance would be greatly appreicated, but please don't reply if you don't know for sure.
They will clear with no problem as long as you are running the stock brake setup. I run 17x8.5 polished thin spokes on the rear with Nitto 275-40-17 DRs with no problem.
I 2nd that, as I run 17x8.5" wagon wheels w/ et streets
my friend frank runs 275x40x17 on wagon wheels on rear and they clear. i run 255x50x16 mt et streets dr's and they require a little grinding to clear because of rim
