OK guys- i am new to Corvettes. I have been in the F-body scene for a while though. We always had a type of 'performance outline' to guide newbies with. Just wondering if the Vette crowd had a similar thing.
IE- F-body-
1- Subframe Connectors
2- CAI
3- Catback
4- Headers and Offroad Y pipe
5- LCA's
6- Torque Arm
7- Stronger Rear End
8- Clutch
9 power adder/heads cam
etc...
With vettes I already see some differences...So what would you Mod Guidelines be?
1. learn the car...way diff than the fbody
2. Clutch/Blower/Tune
3. 10 sec Slip
4. Enjoy your 10sec vette
5. Get bored with your power
6. Add more power.....ETC you know how this cycle runs
My wife's 99 SS Convertible is very different from my Z06. I put 181 passes on it prior to doing mods. (This was the best mod I ever did.) As for a list, there wll be many answers to your question so I wll speak as only one rep for the n/a group.
I have been very successful with this setup.
-Both rear shafts (hardened)
-Vararam, Could also do the airbridge if you wish. (I have not installed mine yet.)
-17 " DRs and front skinnies
-American Racing 1 7/8" headers with X-Pipe and high flow cats
-Textralia Exo-Skel clutch
-4.10 gears
My car was tuned by Anger Management Racing
You can add:
-Fast 90
-90mm TB
-Cam
Trick Flow heads
Step 1) Learn how to launch
Step 2) Do basic bolt ons, drag radials, air intake, shifter, headers, xpipe
Step 3)Relearn how to launch
Step 4)add more power, cam,heads,blower,nitrous
Step 5)Relearn how to launch
As compared to Fbody launch is the same for all of the above REV BANG DONE!!!!!!!!! TIMESLIP INSTALLED!

BANG as in broken? DONE as in push the car off the track and spend money to fix it?
I'd say the mod guidline would depend on what you want to use the car for. So what are your plans for the car?
Yeah- I should've been more specific I suppose.
This is gonna be my cruiser. My T/A is gonna be my drag car.
I am going more in a bolt on direction. I don't really see and chassis type parts for the vette- guess there isn't alot to do to the torque tube chassis? I fiqure half shafts eventually. But I figure it'll be like any other ride-
Intake
Exhaust
cam
tune
halfshafts
clutch
Ultimately- I would like a car that fairly fast(low 12's, maybe 11's, on 100% street tires), drives nice(the T/A is a bruiser), still get real good mileage(25+).
I geuss I am looking for a good order to go with the mods. Since I will basically be doing one at a time..
They make a stronger housing? I figured the 3.42's would be stronger than anything lower....plus I wanna keep the mileage aspect. But like I said- it'll never see a 'racing' tire.
Doesn't take much to get into the low 12s on a C5. You have 6 speed so you already have 3.42 gears. Vararam CAI, long tube headers and drag radials with tuning would probably get you close once you get the launch down. You could probably do this setup with stock clutch and half shafts. Check the 1/4 mile times for the various setups and what they ran. To get in to the 11s might require a cam some half shafts and a stronger clutch, dunno.

They made a 1 rib & 3 rib housing...the 3 rib is stronger. Either way when you start adding more power the rear needs to be built. Start with hardened output shafts at a minimum and go from there!

I went 11s with very very little(but i was on a 26" ET Street). I'm planning an UDP and headers this season to nab the bolt-on LS1 record(11.62 iirc). Basic vararam/ls6 intake/headers/UDP/tune/shifter/driver mod(most important) should get you into the 11s IMO.
I was able to go 12.64 with nothing other than a tune and drag radials(full weight) AND had a crappy 2.039 sixty foot.

That's good info too. Thanks! That is more/less the direction I am headed.
