Go with longtube headers, no reason not too as you can get them cheap and they have been proven far superior to shorties. As far as what cam to go with really depends on what you want from the car, is it a daily driver? 6-Speed or Auto?

The car is a 6spd, with stock clutch and rear. It is not a daily driver, although I want to retain the nice gas mileage and reliability! I was interested in teh shorty headers for easy install. I raced an 80 Vette for many years and I am quite farmiliar with the older SBC parts, I am new to the LS1 series! Thanks for the help.

Id look at the 228 range cams and a set of longtube headers, dont forget to swap a LS6 intake as that will give you a cheap 15rwhp. You should be able to find EVERYTHING you need in the parts section of this forum for VERY good prices. 228 cam, Longtubes, LS6 intake and a good tune should yield right around 400rwhp with good manners and drivability.

Most longtube header setups aren't too difficult to install, with the exception of Kooks.

i agree with the others on the dumping the shorties and youve prob picked up 2hp over manifolds...i just did a cam on my brothers 00 FRC with stock clutch and gears and i loaded him a base tune and his car drives perfect a/c on or off...cold and hot starts are perfecr, valvetrain is quiet...i used stock rockers, pac 1518 behives good to 650 lift, 7.425 pushrods, a comp eps lobes 226 234 600 113+2...can leave off idle no surging or bucking anywhere...also addded a tci underdrive pulley...the cam was spec'd by Geoff the former owner of thunder racing...now his new business is engine power systems in LA...purchased the springs, pulley and gaskets from texas speed...ive purchased many parts from tsp over the years and their prices are always the best and price match anything legit lower...good luck with your car...dont go nuts on the cam i have a large cam in mine and wish i went smaller for driveability...oh and my brothers car picked up 1 mpg with the cam install with tune...got almost 31mpg on his way back to little rock from TN where i installed it. I previously installed lg pro LTs offroad x, ls6 intake, c6z shifter and borla stingers on his car...should do 400rwhp with the wot tune dialed in

Is it difficult to replace the cam, without removing the engine from the car? What about valve springs and fuel injectors?
