Default Camaro wheels grinding

Hey guys, I've had a set of 4th gen camaro wheels with some et streets sitting around for awhile and with the good weather coming I decided to go ahead and put them on the car. 01 z06. Well I put them on and I started backing up andthe damn thing wouldnt move. Gave it a little more gas and finally started to move but with a horrible grinding noise. Popped the wheels off and the damn top of the spindle is cutting into the wheel?? Its right where the ball joint is. Any ideas on why this is happening or what I can do to fix it? I don't really want to grind into the ball joint but what do yall think? Thanks alot

Daniel

I would never ever grind any of my steering or suspension pieces for the sake of fitting rims with an incorrect offset.

Gotta grind the top of the spindles and mainly the tops of the balljoints to make them fit. That's the case with putting pretty much any 16" wheel on the back of a stock C5. You won't run into any strength issues.

Its not an offset issue. Its that a 16" diameter wheel doesn't quite clear the height of the factory rear upright.

such as installing a CCW drag pack. Try pounding the balljoint flat. I had to touch up a piece on the bottom too. It's a tight fit but it works. Sometimes I get a rock pinched in there it will scratch things up again.

For the record, there are some (early 4th gen?) 16" F-body rims that won't fit on the back of a C5 at all, even after making the above ball joint/upright alterations.

I don't know about the grinding but when I was using 16" T/A wheels, I just used the hammer method

When I did mine, i'd mount the tire and tighten the lugs and spin the tire. If nothing hits try dropping the car on the wheels and rolling with it, making a few slow turns. On the turns (with me) started scrapping again.

I used a spray paint on the top of the balljoint and only hammered where the paint was scraped off.

And make sure that the wire leading to the wheel speed sensor DOES NOT rub against the barrel of the wheel. I couldn't figure out what a rubbing sound was until a code popped up. The code told me that there was a short circuit in the system...the barrel of the wheel rubbed through the conduit and was contacting the wire — hence the short circuit. Thankfully I caught it in time and it didn't cut the wire in half!

It took me forever, but I finally got them to fit. Lucky for me I had a can of aluminum paint to put down on the bare metal. The et streets hook nice but they walk ALOT at low speeds. I've used et streets before without having a bias ply up front and it didnt feel this bad. Any more thoughts? Thanks again guys

Air them up to about 25lbs. take a tape measure and measure the circumferce of both. Make sure theyre within 1/4" ofeach other.
If you're running full size radials on the front, set the pressure in the ET streets to 20lbs. Check you pressure before and after you run so you can see how much pressure is added from your burnout/run. drop you pressure about 1-2lbs between until you reach your desired traction OR your car begins to "crab walk" more you like. I usually get bdown to 15-16lbs, lower than that, the cars starts to wiggle a lot. Youll find that the colder air/track temps will require higher air pressures and/or longer burnouts.
