It really isn't the poor guy's fault (assuming he was a beginner) the starter should place the guys in the correct location for the burn out.
Looks like he was told to spin the tires in the water box, which he did. Problem was that water box is small and when he spun the tires the car jumped about 8 feet. He should have been told to back up to the edge of the water, instead he tried to burn out on dry rubber.

He could have just kept the tires pointing straight so when he regained traction the car went straight, right?
