Just in case my little 346 doesn't hold up for a 10.4 run in the fall. I've been contemplating my next build and wanted to get a few expert opinions. I'll give a few details to see if y'all think it's possible to go 9's with ~550rwhp and sub 3100lb raceweight...
It's got 112k "hard" miles on it and is getting tired...has a slight tick, I think from bumping the limiter to 7k and was datalogging 7200 between shifts
I think it's possible if everything comes together for that perfect pass. Why are you setting the limiter at 7200? run it as high as the cam still makes power...

I picked 7200 as that'll be the estimated rpm I'll be going thru the traps (~138)...we've bumped the limiter in Matt's GTO to 7500 just to see how well the clutch works at that speed, but the intake is going to be the limiting factor more than the cam at that point.
I would limit the times to 7200rpm due to the stock rod bolts IMO. You're asking for BOOM at that point.
I think the car will need to be lighter, driver will have to be beaten into submission and then rebuilt from the ground up left constant left leg presses and right arm pull ups only. Then a strict diet of cabbage and egg milk. Then and only then may you become ready to begin your journey into...... the highlight zone.

says the quiter that couldnt get his C5 to run fast, so he bailed and got a C6Z... Why do we still let him in here???
+1...RPM makes them...and texas speed supposedly has them "for sale" (according to LS1tech). Definitely curious to see what kind of power they make on a non LS7 427 bore....compared to ported/potential aftermarket LS3's.
Since its a new build why would he keep stock rod bolts? Especially when katech's are only $200
option 2 forge the bottom end and stroke it, main studs, heads studs add a little juice and you'll be in the nines easy if you can launch without breaking the drive train
